30 years of Vietnam-Cambodia friendship only brought territory loss and illegal Viet immigrants to Cambodia

Get-together strengthens Vietnam-Cambodia friendship

A get-together to mark the 31st anniversary of Cambodian Victory Day (January 7) and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) was held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 5.

Both the president of the VCFA, Truong Kim Nhat and the Royal Consulate General of Cambodia to Ho Chi Minh City, Lun Kimkhuon said that January 7, 1979 is an historic day and a concrete reminder of the traditional friendship between the two nations.

Over the past 30 years, the two countries have continuously strengthened their cooperation in educating the youths through practical activities organised by Vietnam and Cambodia.

On behalf of the Royal Family and the people of Cambodia, Consulate General Lun expressed his deep gratitude for the steadfast support of the Communist Party, the State and people of Vietnam in the Cambodian people’s past struggles to overthrow the Khmer Rouge genocidal regime as well as in their current process of national reconstruction.

Vietnam, Cambodia friendship associations strengthen ties

The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) and the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association (CVFA) met in Phnom Penh on March 11 to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral ties in the future.

During the working session, the two sides spoke highly of their bilateral cooperation in the past and agreed to speed up the establishment of friendship association chapters between the border areas of the two neighbouring countries.

They also agreed to organise biennial meetings between the two associations in the future.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and CVFA President Men Sam An said that Cambodia always treasures its traditional friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.

On the same day, the VCFA delegation, headed by its President, Vu Mao, was received by the President of the Cambodian Senate, Samdech Chea Sim, and the Chairman of the Cambodian National Assembly, Heng Samrin.

President Chea Sim welcomed the delegation’s visit, saying that it is an important milestone in consolidating the traditional friendship between the two countries.

He affirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia neighbourly friendship will undoubtedly flourish in the future.

During its stay in Phnom Penh, the VCFA delegation called at the Vietnamese Association to present gifts to its members.

The delegation is also scheduled to visit several Cambodian localities, including Svay Rieng and Siem Reap provinces.

VietNamNet Bridge - The Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Association (VCFA) re-elected Vu Mao as President for the 2008-2013 period at its 3 rd National Congress in Hanoi on June 14.

Addressing the event, President of the association Vu Mao, stressed the important strategic relations between Vietnam and Cambodia , saying that bilateral relations are seeing positive developments on the basis of mutual benefits, traditional friendly neighbourliness and comprehensive cooperation.

Over the past five years, the VCFA has actively and creatively renewed its activities, improving the people-to-people diplomatic work, strengthening the traditional friendship and solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia .

The congress defined the VCFA’s focal tasks in the 3 rd term, namely to promote the education on the two countries’ traditional friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, attach importance to economic, trade, scientific and technical cooperation; continue to develop the organisation, improving the quality of its activities and strengthening its leadership.

The VCFA will create opportunities for former Vietnamese experts and volunteer soldiers to visit their former combatant fields in Cambodia , and organise exchange meetings for students and business clubs of the two countries.

Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Vann Phal highly appreciated the traditional friendship, solidarity and fine cooperation in the spirit of “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and long-tern, durable and comprehensive cooperation” between the two countries.

The congress also passed its revised charter and elected a new 39-member executive committee.
