Dr. Ra Jong-yil travelled all the way from South Korea to Cambodia, and on Wednesday 07 January, by the end of the day, the president of the Woosuk University bestowed an honorary PhD in economy to Hun Sen during a ceremony organized by the ministry of Foreign Affairs in Phnom Penh.
“He led an extraordinary economic development, with an average 10% growth, by opening up the country and attracting foreign investments,” Ra Jong-yil indicated about Hun Sen. He also added that Hun Sen was “one of the principal contributors to the common development between Cambodia and South Korea by accelerating the economic cooperation between the two countries.”
Following these praises, Hun Sen declared: “The honor bestowed upon me today reflects the solid link and friendship between our two people and our two countries.”
At the beginning of the 00s, Lee Myung Bak, the current South Korean president was Hun Sen’s economic advisor. South Korean investors are present in Cambodia, in particular, they are involved in the real estate sector and in the construction of important skyscrapers. The number of South Korean tourists visiting Cambodia is the highest in the kingdom.
