Inauguration of the nighttime market in Phnom Penh

The nighttime market, which is newly set up for the first time in Phnom Penh, was inaugurated on 09 November, the market is opened to serve both national customers as well as international tourists. The inauguration was participated by Thong Khon, the minister of tourism and Kep Chuktema, the governor of Phnom Penh. The market is located at the Dey Kraham park, next to the Leper King statue in front of the Wat Unalom pagoda. Kep Chuktema declared during the inauguration that the setup of this nighttime market was done with the aim of pushing tourism in the city of Phnom Penh, and also to promote and encourage Cambodian products. During its initial step, the nighttime market will be opened daily between 6:00 PM to midnight between 09 and 26 November. During its second step, following the Bon Om Touk (boat racing festival), the market will be opened on Saturdays and Sundays only. During the first opening day of the market, 163 kiosks were opened.

Great news, this mean hundreds thousands of jobs will be created in the next five years or so. However, for this idea to work, we need to add more security -- yay, new jobs! -- to secure good city image.

Hey, when people come to Cambodia, we want them to feel like they are in Cambodia, not France, Australia, or whatever. That would defeat the purpose of coming to Cambodia.
