The lawyer who used to defend the SRP confirmed in a press conference held this morning that there was indeed an attempt made to arrest him yesterday, but the attempt was not successful.

Choung Chou-ngy, lawyer for the SRP, said that on 29 December 2011, there were indeed cops pursuing him to arrest him, but their pursuit was not successful. He indicated that the cops tried to arrest him at 3 checkpoints: (1) at Sala Lekh Pram, (2) in Kampong Chhnang, and (3) in Prek Kdam.

At the same time, Choung Choun-ngy also announced that he will shave his head, don white rode, and will pray for one week between 04 and 10 January 2012. He will hold his prayers in front of the Kandal provincial court, the Appeal court, the Supreme court, the ministry of Justice and the Cambodian Bar Association so that all these institutions abide by the law and would provide justice to all the Cambodian people.

It should recalled that yesterday, it was reported that the cops arrested SRP Lawyer Choung Chou-ngy when he was traveling to defend his client involved in a land dispute case in Kampong Chhnang province, the arrest would have stemmed from an order issued by the Kandal provincial court which charged Choung Chou-ngy of helping a Leuk Dek commune councilor flee from the Kandal jail. However the cops and the Kandal provincial court rejected information about this arrest.
