“I understand that the way he talked seems to show that he is under pressure.”
Nevertheless, once again, today, a reliable human rights investigation official in Cambodia who declined to reveal his identity indicated that Choung Chou-ngy was arrested by the cops before he was released at night time.
After disappearing for one whole day – an event that created quite a havoc – Choung Chou-ngy, the SRP lawyer, appeared at a public press conference this Friday to say that there was attempt made to arrest him, but he was able to evade it safely.
During a press conference held at the SRP headquarters located in the suburb of Phnom Penh, Choung Chou-ngy confirmed that his car led to the defeat in the attempt to arrest him, however he did not elaborate further than this. Chuong Chou-ngy said that he is under pressure that does not allow him to provide further details.
“Yesterday, because of my car, it helped me evade my arrest. I am limited in what I can talk.”
Even though Choung Chou-ngy could not discuss clearly what he faced, he seems to be linking the attempt to arrest him to Ouk Kim Sith, the Kandal provincial court prosecutor, who issued charges against him.
“My lawsuit against Ouk Kim Sith was a legal case. When Ouk Kim Sith turned against me, he cut corners and he used his people to inflict hardship on me. There were three places where they ambushed to arrest me. The first one was in Sala Lekh Pram, the second one in Kampong Chhnang and the third one in Prek Kdam.”
Quite to the contrary, prosecutor Ouk Kim Sith retorted by saying that the claim made by the SRP lawyer was not true. Ouk Kim Sith added that if the cops wanted to arrest Choung Chou-ngy by using the power of the court, he (Choung Chou-ngy), who is a suspect, would not be able to escape. Furthermore, Ouk Kim Sith indicated that he was only fulfilling his role in the opposition against Lawyer Choung Chou-ngy after there are suspicions that Choung Chou-ngy was involved in a crime.
One week ago, last Friday, Choung Chou-ngy and SRP MP Chan Cheng were accused by the Kandal provincial court of “providing escaping means” to help Meas Peng, a SRP commune councilor, who was involved in a land dispute case with a high-ranking government official from the ruling CPP party.
On Thursday, yesterday, Choung Chou-ngy seems to vanish mysteriously when he was traveling to Kampong Chhnang province. His relatives received an urgent phone call from him indicating that he was being chased for an arrest. Then all day long, contact with him seem was all cut off.
Human rights officials and SRP MPs then gathered in front of the Kandal provincial court, believing that Choung Chou-ngy would be brought there. At same time, investigation officials from a NGO claimed that the SRP lawyer was brought to the ministry of Interior (MoI). However, General Khieu Sopheak, the mouthpiece of the MoI, rejected claims about his arrest.
Nevertheless, once again, today, a reliable human rights investigation official in Cambodia who declined to reveal his identity indicated that Choung Chou-ngy was arrested by the cops before he was released at night time.
A number of SRP MPs and human rights officials indicated that they were able to contact Choung Chou-ngy over the phone during the evening after his disappearance for the entire day. But, when contacted, Choung Chou-ngy only said that he was not at home.
Son Chhay, the SRP whip, said that Choung Chou-ngy seems to be under some kind of pressure. “I understand that the way he talked seems to show that he is under pressure,” Son Chhay said.
Choung Chou-ngy sat at his press conference, closed his eyes, lowered his head as if he was praying for a short while because starting the conference in which the number of questions were limited. He recounted in great length about what he faced professionally, and he showed about his professional concerns as well, in particular what he has to face to defend villagers involved in land disputes. Chan Soveth, a human rights observer for the Adhoc human rights group, noted that Choung Chou-ngy is fearful. “It seems as if he does not want to show that they had arrested him, but he wanted to show about his escape. This is a point to think about, and we must also weigh in his attitude, his facial demeanor and his words, they indicate that he is under fear.”
After disappearing for one day, Choung Chou-ngy announced that he will spend 12 days in January to pray, to shave his head and don the white [religious] robe, and he will seek justice in front of the Kandal provincial court, the Appeal court, the Supreme court, the ministry of Justice and the Cambodian Bar Association.

Choung Chou-Ngy has been arrested then released not by the CPP police but by the group of gang orchestrated by the powerful and rich CPP person(s)after he pledged not to get ... He will be eliminated from this planet of the earth if he dares to attempt to challenge them again. and thay's why he decided to shave his hairs and ordain as the dedication of pledge that he has been given second life by the powerful and rich group.
What do Cambodian Bar Association has to say about this?
Mr. Choung Chou-Ngy has a personal case to build against Kandal provincial court prosecutor, Ouk Kim Sith, who used a group of cop attempted to arrest him while on duty.
Someone, or something scared the daylight out of this man.
