Loun Savath is a Nationalist and a good man but he is not a truly Buddhist Monk.

However the majority Khmers believe in Gotama Buddha adopted as a state religion by Jayavaraman vii, so this monk uses his Buddhism to justify his good deeds to help his people. He is a Khmer nationalist who works inside the monk.

Gotama Buddha was a wealthiest man in his country, his followers only meditated, ate, slept and preached. They didn't have to worry about agriculture, because their followers fed them.

Gotama Buddha's theory to help whoever want to reach Nirvana means to end the sufferings or stop rebirth, and so Tibet reached the nothingness but the Tibetan Buddhists remain suffer even more under China, the Tibetans did not end their sufferings.

As for Cambodia & Laos, the two lost to Vietnam. Laos and Cambodia practically belong to Vietnam even officially not yet but they are.

Vietnam will put its nuclear in Koh Kong, a way to expand their land into Thailand, and Hun Sen it puppet makes a speech as he's always instructed.

Among in these million Khmer monks there are Vietnamese troops in it.

The enemy works inside the monks and the nationalists also work inside the monks, they both are monks. They play a major role in Khmer society.

The result, the Buddhism never helps anyone to end the sufferings but gain more sufferings, and to the nothingness, or to be no more Nations.

The Hindu built the empire the Buddhists destroyed.

What did Jayavarman VII believe in?
He believed in Buddha. He built Khmer
empire to zenith.

After he passed away, his son,Jayavarman VIII,took over Khmer
empire.He changed Buddhism to Hinduism.
Later Siam(Thai)invaded Cambodia;
then Vietnam and Champa intruded
Khmer empire during Jayavarman VIII.
Please read Khmer history over again. So it was not because of
Buddhism.
Because Khmer empire had so many
enemies,specially Vietnam,Thai,
and Champs.

Khmer empire created enemies,but
not friends.To build Khmer empire,
Khmer empire kings used Vietnamese,
Chams,Thai,and other ethnic groups
as slaves to build Khmer empire.

No, You lied.

(Jayavaraman ii) 802 AD, a usurper from Java, and a Khmer Empire founder was NOT Buddhist, he was more Brahmani-st and Hindu. He was a mighty tyrant, he killed with no mercy just like Julius Caesar, Jayavaraman ii created Devaraj Cult (Tevareach cult) as the official state religion. He made himself Davaraj (god) above all Kings.

This link below can help you and others some light instead of guessing.

http://angkor1431.tripod.com/index/id36.html

He was an expansionist and he Unified Land Chenla and Water Chenla to be a Khmer Empire. Jayavaraman ii was no different than the Yuon Nguyen who expand Yuon land toward Champa and Kampuchea Krom (Low Chenla).

If Jayavaraman ii was Buddhist as you guessed, he would had NOT built the empire. People like him has to be a real tyrant be butcher and merciless like Genghis Khan of Mongolia to build such a great city and empire.

Buddhist? They are weak and coward.

No Jayavaraman viii (8) was not his son, it was jayavaraman iii (3) who took the throne after Jayavaraman ii (2) died in 850 AD.

Like father like son, they two were not Buddhists, they were Hindu. They built temples dedicated to Visnu, Shiva, Linga. Those gods the Hindu believe that the Supreme GOD manifested into many forms such as Siva, Visnu, etc..

Angkor Wat 1113-1150 was built by King Suryavaraman ii. He too was Hindu.

Here is a link that listed all Khmer Kings.

Then you would know that Jayavaraman iii(3) was a son of Jayavaraman ii who took the Empire thrones, and they were all Hindu.

Jayavaraaman viii came after Jayavaraman 7, another tyrant who declared Buddhism as a state religion. This tyrant expanded more land, but he was afraid of another tyrants may kill him, so Buddhism can save his reign/rule.
It did not affect his reign/rule but affect the nation after his death. He issued Royal decree upon all the people in the empire to adopt Buddhism.

The empire declined and collapsed, because of too many men run into Buddhist Temples to become monks, not many care about economy.

Hun Xen even he is a low class but he too secretly ordered to build more Temples and have more monks to collect money.
