The Phnom Penh city authority refused to allow Khmer Krom associations to organize the 60th anniversary of France’s transfer of Kampuchea Krom to Vietnam. The memorial is planned to be held at the public park located in front of Wat Botum Pagoda at the beginning of June. According to The Cambodia Daily, Pa Socheatvong, the deputy governor of the city of Phnom Penh, said on Thursday that the Phnom Penh city authority will not allow Khmer Krom associations to hold this memorial at this location. Pa Socheatvong said that the loss of Kampuchea Krom is merely past history. On Thursday, Thach Setha, executive Director of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom Community, said that he is saddened to see the city hall refusing to allow the memorial to be held there this year, however, he said that he will negotiate with the city authority to use this location because even the king’s representative will participate in this ceremony as well. On 04 June 1949, the colonial French regime transferred Cambodia’s land of Cochinchina to the Vietnamese government.

Chuob Khon, the Preah Vihear deputy provincial governor, was moved by the government to a new position as the deputy governor of the city of Phnom Penh, replacing Chhun Syrun who was nominated as the Kandal province governor at the beginning of August. Chuob Khon took over the position from Chhun Syun during an announcement ceremony held at the city hall last weekend. Chuob Khon joined the CPP after 1979, and he used to be the Tonle Bati village chief, located in Takeo province. He occupied the position of vice-chairman of the milk factory for 5-year, and chairman of the Tuol Kok No. 3 textile factory for 7-year. He was also the deputy-governor and governor of the Tuol Kok district for 7-year. In 2000, he was the deputy governor of Chamcar Mon district, and in 2003 he was promoted to the position of 7 Makara district governor. In 2005, he became the deputy governor of Preah Vihear province, and he now received the vote of confidence to become the deputy-governor of the city of Phnom Penh, replacing Chhun Syrun.
