Rong Chhun's Illegal Arrest

Following the illegal arrest of Mam Sonando, Rong Chhun, President of Cambodia Teachers Independent Union and a member of the Cambodia Watchdog Council (CWC), signed a statement very critical of the Hun Sen government’s policy on border issues. The statement also expressed support for Mam Sonando. Subsequently, Hun Sen brought charges against the four members who signed the CWC statement, and order their arrest for criticizing him and for "act [that] creates trouble in the country". Rong Chhun was arrrested on October 15, 2005, indicted, and incarcerated the same day.
