Funcinpec Senior Minister Serei Kosal on Wednesday called off a news conference at which he had pledged to reveal embarrassing secrets about the party's Secretary-General Nhiek Bun Chhay. Serei Kosal said by telephone that he had been asked by senior party officials to delay the media event adding that he still had information that would expose what he called "the real face" of Nhiek Bun Chhay. "I have to respect those senior officials," he said. Royalist Senior Minister You Hockry said he had asked Serei Kosal to suspend his revelations, and had scheduled a meeting between Serei Kosal and Nhiek Bun Chhay. "Serei Kosal and Nhiek Bun Chhay will meet to compromise," he said. "The person who made mistakes must apologize and the person who is right must forgive," he said, adding that the rift between the two men was not benefiting Funcinpec. Nhiek Bun Chhay could not be contacted, while his spokesman Nouv Sovathero declined comment Serei Kosal originally threatened to disclose information about Nhiek Bun Chhay on June 6, after the secretary-general accused him of planning to form a breakaway party named after Funcinpec President Prince Norodom Ranariddh. Serei Kosal has denied the allegation.
