Liberal International, a federation of more than 80 political parties from across the world, has awarded Sam Rainsy Party leader Sam Rainsy its 2006 "Prize for Freedom," the SRP cabinet said in a statement Saturday. The decision was made during the federation's executive committee meeting last week in Manila, which Sam Rainsy attended, said SRP lawmaker Eng Chhay Eang. For 10 years, the meeting's report said, "Sam Rainsy has been Cambodia's leading champion of democracy, human rights and the rule of law." Even though Sam Rainsy has been targeted for assassination three times, he continues to fight for freedom and democracy "in the face of the dictatorship of Cambodia" the report said. CPP lawmaker Cheam Yeap denied that Cambodia is a dictatorship, adding that more than 2,000 national and international NGOs operate freely here. He added that the CPP has been enforcing human rights and that Sam Rainsy was being credited for work that has been carried out by the government. Asked about Sam Rainsy's decision to flee Cambodia for a year in 2005, Eng Chhay Eang said fighting for democracy sometimes involves escaping from danger. The prize's previous recipients include imprisoned Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

I don't know how he can win either,butI know a man is honest, trueful, has every strenght, every imaginable way of good sence and intelligent. He showed that he is capable and able to run the county.
