National Election Committee (NEC) officials are planning to set up an investigation committee before 31 Dec, in order to investigate the list of people suspected of being Vietnamese [who are registered to vote], and whose names have been reported by the Sam Rainsy Party. The removal of these names from the voting list was earlier denied by the NEC.

Som Chandyna, NEC member, said that according to the law, only Cambodian citizens have the right to vote for their representatives, foreigners are not allowed.

NEC members have met, and it will set up a committee which will work with local representatives at the sangkat/commune level directly to review the names of those who died, those who were sent to jail, those who moved, and in particular, those who are suspected of being Vietnamese citizens as reported to the NEC.

Som Chandyna said that the NEC investigation committee must complete its work before the NEC can officially announce the final voting list.

Som Chandyna said: “We noted that a number of Vietnamese citizens have not been removed, the NEC will review the voting list.”

Related to the formation of the NEC investigation committee, Koul Panha, Comfrel director, said that he supports the formation of the NEC investigation committee. He stressed that such investigation is needed and if the culprits are found, they should be punished according to the law so that they do not perpetrate the act anymore. Koul Panha said that if there is no legal punishment of the culprits, the investigation would have no value.

The vote registration ended on 24 Oct. The NEC held a hearing to decide on the report provided by the Sam Rainsy Party asking for the removal of almost 10,000 names of people suspected of being Vietnamese citizens.

Recently also, Sar Kheng, the vice-prime minister and minister of Information, declared that the number of foreign immigrants in Cambodia amounts to 19,437 families consisting of 70,012 people. Out of the total number of immigrants, 85% are from Vietnam.

The number of immigrants above includes both legal and illegal ones, none of them have the right to vote.

Congratulation Vietnamese government who plays a smart move with the Chinese, Russian ,and now The US. Now the US companies have their eyes on the Vietnam's market. Where is Cambodia, Hun Sen? He is good to help Vietnam to be prosper and conquer Cambodia land. Watch out Khmer! When Vietnam becomes stronger, Cambodia will lose more land and they will conquer Cambodia once again. We're so stupid and we deserve to be someone's servant. From the stupid King, dump queen, no brain prince, hooker princess, left wing (CPP) prime minister, left wing ministers, and left wing ordinary people, all of these are destroying Cambodia and her people every day, minute, and second. They create jungle law, grabbing land, rob the people, etc...

Whoever said that Cambodia now is changing a lot. My friends, it's only residential buildings in Phnom Penh only, but other provinces are still the same. When driving outside the capitol, you don't see anything. Where are the high tech industries, even food industries we don't have. Only low job cloth factories that pay a minimum wage are in Cambodia.

Our country is just a small pond that neighbors can grab anytime. Now CPP will have more power when the oil pumps in 2009. Swiss bank will be generated more money from CPP gangsters.

When will the stupid Khmer wake up and united to overthrow this traitors??

Buddy !
khmers rouge have killed nearly 2 millions lives , and almost every families affected . Most khmers rouge leaders are still alive and well ,my question to you is , have you seen any revenges against those people?. Here is another one, HUN SEN and his croonies get richer and richer beyond belief with corruption, have you seen any demonstration against them on the streets? nothing. Cambodians are not americans. In America, we used to say; " no justice no peace".
