Son Chhay, an opposition MP, declared that there is a way to avoid the international criticism when it comes to corruption, however, it requires a strong determination by the government.
Son Chhay provided three main ideas: “(1) The government itself starting from the Prime Minister, should not make the decision on its own regarding investment issues, regarding giving business rights in our country through private parties: it must not be done through an individual decision which does not include any price bidding process as is done currently, and the under the table deal must be immediately stopped. (2) Our national institutions must be strengthened such as: the National Assembly, the justice system, the governance system; these institutions must take responsibility, must have justice, must have strength to pursue all illegal activities, etc… (3) We must hurry up to bring to court those corruption cases or at least some of them, even though the anti-corruption law is not passed yet.
Son Chhay’s input was provided following Transparency International (TI) had just ranked Cambodia as the 151st country among 163 other countries in terms of corruption.
Om Yentieng, the government official in charge of corruption, had reacted to the TI score given by saying that this is not right.
Om Yentieng said: “Those who gave the score to Cambodia, they don’t have independence, they are not neutral, they don’t have the real will to help Cambodia to fight against corruption. We do everything according to our responsibility to fight corruption, those who gave the score want to show that they are the opposition, that they are thinking a lot [about Cambodia], whereas in reality, as we see it, they did not do anything yet [for Cambodia].”
Cambodia has promised to foreign aid donor officials in March that it will complete an [anti-corruption] law by June 2006, and that it will push for its ratification by October 2006, however, up to now, the project law has not yet been sent to the National Assembly for debate and adoption yet.

TI ranked Cambodia 151 out of 163 is clearly identify the level of curruption country. It is sad to see even the ranking is being done by Transparency International, Cambodian Government denies the fact and accuse TI of siding with the opposition. Please wake up and start working for the country instead of sucking benefits.
I agrred with you Son Chhay. More over,
-all government officials who have owned farm lands must be punished and must be re-distributed to the farmers.
-Government officials who have owned more than two residents properties in any urban areas must be conficiacated and re-distributed to homeless citizen.
-All officials must have a liveable salary.
-All Cambodians must use Riels instead of dollars.
-The government must make sure that all foreign currencies must be checked carefully before allowed to TT out from the country.
