The human-rights-violator-in-chief advises on how to develop human rights

Only real activities can help develop human rights: Cambodian PM

Cambodia should carry out "real activities" rather than empty talks and parades to develop its human rights, Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Tuesday while inaugurating a school in Svay Rieng province.

"Human rights are not only to speak loudly and demand democracy and freedom of expression ... but we need to do actual activities" like building schools, canals, hospitals and pagodas, radio reports quoted him as saying.

"We can not beg for human rights from the sky and mythical spirits," he said.

"Can we protest to demand something when we have no rice to place in pots? Speaking about human rights everyday without doing something, is this real rights?" he asked.

Hun Sen made these remarks two days after some 10,000 Cambodians participated the celebration of the International Human Rights Day on Sunday in Phnom Penh.

U.S. Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli also joined the parade.

All human right activists must learn how to response to Hun sen empty talk. It is his job to build school and all other facilities because he is the government who has collected all the taxes and aids monies. There are plentifull of rice being stolen by all Hun Sen family, therefore human right are here to stop them from stealing more and more. Without their stealings, rice in Cambodia are plentifull to feed every body and give every body a descent living.

I don't think Hun Sen know what Human right is or mean!.. and he is a prime minister of Cambodia representing the CPP party...what a shame.

Wait i forget CPP are communist party, Hun Sen is a former Khmer Rouge and educated by Communist Vietnam they are against freedom of express or critism.

I would love for him to be in the position of those poors and oppressed cambodian may be then he understand what Human right is or what no foods on the table mean.

Hmmm...what can one expect from a Khmer-Viet-vagabond communist hard-core endoctrinated to do no less than finishing Khmer off?

IS that Hun Sen and CPP have forgotten their roots? Why did they (KR) revolt in the first place?

Seems like history is repeating itself in Cambodia. The elite, the riches vs. the poor, the peasents.. the educated..

Fighting for everyday people(khmer)..Maybe NGO should take a page from the Khmer rouge manifesto..(leave out the killing field..of course).

Hello Poster 10.24! You are very correct. Human right and social development need to go hand in hand. Economic development without social development, the country is going to be a civil war very soon because all the wealth of the country have not spreaded evenly among the population and have been in the hands of a very few. THe same problem of Cambodia now since 1993, only a few elite on the top have benefited from the economy development. Most of the riches are stealing without shame lands, resources of the poors. The poors are getting poorer and the very few riches are getting richer. They should learn from Bill Gate and Angela Jolie who is a woman.

What a criminal that animal Hun Sen is, he cans only tell those non senses stories to the peasants that live under his suppression. Those people have nothing since a Hun Sen and his clan stole and continue to steal each and every penny of aid and loan that coming into Cambodia. The tiny portion that he uses to build school and road naming after him are outrageous and disgusting he makes those peasants to believe it's all his money. I sincerely and believe he will be soon pay back for his crime to all the Cambodians people he is not as bad as Pol Pot.

Wow. This only shows how clueless Mr. Hun Sen is about Human rights issue. It's not about building tangible objects, Mr. Hun Sen, but about ideology, and the belief that everyone is created equal. Once that has been achived, then we can go on and progress with further building "real" infrastures, not just for show.

Without that mentality, building 1000 schools will not change corruption and greed. Afterall, they can build a hospital to help the poor, but without human rights, they can still step on the poor's throat and murder them as they see fit. Throwing corrupt money at the poor is not Human rights.

What? AH HUN SEN had been building school since the begining of time! I had a chance to check on AH HUN SEN so called "school" and my God! The damn school looks more like a barn yard! It seems that AH HUN SEN likes quantity more than quality!

Not many Cambodian people know that all CPP officials send their children oversea to study and none of study in Cambodia!

So what is the point of building more school by AH HUN SEN?
