Sam Rainsy, SRP President, called to aid donor countries to pay attention and to review the irregular preparation for the election organized by the National Election Committee (NEC) for the upcoming 2007 commune election.
Sam Rainsy told RFA on 14 Jan that the fact that donor countries are still continuing to provide aid and technical expertise for such unjust election, means that they are only providing a legality cover for the NEC.
Sam Rainsy said: “I am calling on donor countries to be careful because the aid they provide to the NEC is not being used properly. What is important is not only the funds they provide, but they also provide a cover of legality. If donor countries are still providing funds, expertise help for such an election process, in reality, it is not just the money they provide, they also provide a cover of legality to a system which is illegal and unjust.”
Sam Rainsy made this declaration following the NEC’s decision to drop the claim made by SRP demanding the removal of CPP candidate from Phnom Kok commune, Veun Sai district, Ratanakkiri province [who, according to SRP, did not register on time].
