CPP looks into land disputes with the election closing in

A CPP meeting was held at the party provincial office to discuss land disputes in the province of Ratanakkiri. However, Muong Poy, the provincial governor stressed that the problems to be discussed on the agenda are those involving recent conflicts. Thus, the problem involving the 500-hectare of land in the Kong Yu village which is simmering for more than 3 years already, was not discussed. “That’s a problem that the villagers must resolve with the company. It has nothing to do with me,” the governor justified.

The Kong Yu land which was purchased by the sister of Keat Chhon, the Minister of Economy and Finance, is already planted with rubber trees, and the remaining area of the land is claimed by the Kong Yu villagers who are supported by the Community Legal Education Center (Clec) NGO which provides legal help to the village. Thy Bunthoeun, Clec lawyer, said that the governor can be excused as he is still new in his position, however, he indicated that the provincial authority is responsible of this land dispute. For the Clec – which brought the charges to the court against the company, and to which the court confirmed that it would look into the case – there are several means to act on these issued. “We have other strategies,” Thy Bunthoeun recognized, “We can seek for more support from the international community, reinforce contacts with the company in order to negotiate for an advantageous deal for the villagers, or invite diplomats to visit the area.”

Muong Poy announced this weekend the measures taken by the CPP regarding land disputes in the province: “Land disputes focus the attention on our province. We proceeded to evaluate the situation with the help of NGOs and observers who warn the news media on these cases. It has been decided to stop all land sales in the province, as well as stopping the development on lands under dispute.” These measures are taken only a few weeks before the election.

Well people of Cambodia please take note the "CPP government" attitude to assisting you in resolving you land dispute in Cambodia. My understanding is THEY ASKING YOU ALL TO TAKE CONTROL AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS YOURSELF. So what is the point of having a government??.... If the CPP dont want to help or dont have the solution or capabilty to help...then why should you the Khmer victims of land disputes vote for CPP .... my recommendation is to ditch the CPP and find a governt like SRP who can resolve your problems...once and for all...you need to take a hard stand against this land grabbers and the CPP governt that is about "all talk and take no action".

I am not a member of a Sam Rainsy Party. As an outsider for many years I see a balance in SRP. They truely work Khmer and for the sake of the country.

I would like to ask every one who will vote in this upcoming election to cast your vote wisely for your own future. Don't trade your vote for two packages of noodle, 5 kg of rice, and 3,000 riels. Never give Ah SEE PEE PEE any power. Trash them when you can. This blood sucker will suck you to the last drop of your blood.

Sam Rainsy Party is the only party that will help you prosper in life. If elected SRP will absolutely keep your hope alive. Of course SRP will solve thorny issues such as land grabbing, border dispute, courruption, and immigration. Vote for SRP tell everyone that you know. Give SRP a chance you will see the difference. SRP leaders made up of many scholars who work tirelessly for the sake of the country and its people. They will empower you to live in a true democratic society of Cambodia. Bravo SRP, Long live Cambodia.
