Cambodian Prince Norodom Ranariddh has officially sued Nhiek Bun Chhay, present Secretary General of co-ruling Funcinpec party, for breach of trust and forging false documents, Ranariddh's lawyer said on Wednesday.
Ranariddh's lawyer Moung Arun told Xinhua that he has already lodged the complaint to Phnom Penh Municipal Court to accuse Nhiek Bun Chhay of breach of trust and forging false documents during the illegal extraordinary congress of Funcinpec party in October 2006, which led Ranariddh to be ousted from the party.
Nhiek Bun Chhay wrote letters to members of Funcinpec party at that time to call them to join the party congress and it violated the president's rights in administration affairs and the law of party, Arun added.
"Even the court biased to the ruling party in government and sentenced the Prince under political motivation but we still have to lodge the complaint for justice," Arun said, adding that they have enough proof and evidence for the case.
However, Nhiek Bun Chhay could not be reached for comments.
Ranariddh was sentenced in absentia on March 13 by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court to 18 months in jail, with 150,000 U.S. dollars of compensation for the Funcinpec Party, for breach of trust over pocketing the 3.6 million U.S. dollars from selling the party's old headquarters and then putting the land of its new headquarters under his own title.
Ranariddh started to preside Funcinpec in 1992 and was ousted as president in October 2006, for neglecting party affairs and being unable to cooperate with Hun Sen.
He then turned to establish his own Norodom Ranariddh Party, whose members are currently campaigning in the commune councils election.
