Sam Rainsy, with his convoy of 10,000 party supporters, stole the limelight from other political parties. The official campaign for the April 1st commune election started without violence, Comfrel noted.
Phnom Penh streets was crowded Friday with the start of the election campaign. The Sam Rainsy Party stole the limelight from its rivals with a huge procession of 10,000 people who traveled from the National Assembly to the entrance to Takhmao and back to Wat Phnom. Loudspeakers were broadcasting various promises: lowering of gasoline price, free access to medical care for the poor, etc… When the procession crossed the factory workers district of Chak Angre in Khan Meanchey, people came out from their houses to greet Sam Rainsy. The latter declared at Wat Phom that his party would lead because “people want change and they are fed up with commune councilors who ask for bribes in all administrative duties.” “If my party wins, I will build 10 times more irrigation channels and I will eliminate all corruption!” Sam Rainsy claimed.
The CPP also had a good, but more discrete, presence with small team spread in each commune. Among the measures it announced, the CPP promised the improvement of the removal of used dirty waters, and the promotion of a product from each village in the province.
The smaller parties are doing according to what their means allow them, and they are wiping out the wisecracks launched by the larger parties. The Democratic Society Party which was formed last October, prefers distributing to people leaflets and pictures of its president who lives in the US. Its objective is mainly to let people know about the party during its first participation in the election. The Sangkum Jatiniyum Front Party is distributing booklets detailing the policy it plans on applying in each commune. “I think that we will win seats in at least 20 communes because people are receptive to our program,” Suth Dina, the party Secretary-General, predicted.
Kul Panha, from the Comfrel NGO, is welcoming the calm climate which is taking place during this campaign. “The parties have matured. They display more tolerance towards each other. Another progress: there is now a professional media coverage. If there are irregularities which remain here and there (verbal threats, gift distributions, etc…), it stays at a small scale.

Mr.Sam Rainsy, slow down on over zealous promises. He must deliver personal message like be our own boss of own vote for future and down the beggars in government but feudal lord over poor.
Poverty is not a disease,it is the suppressors system to keep people from being self reliance.
Cambodia vote from head for stomach not from stomach paid by the suppressors.
Mr. Sam Raingsy needs to say,if voters want change,I have been the voice of change for the last decades. Come and help to make change together.
Make sure it is inclusive message not much of my party will do this do that people are not that stupid, remember they are the injustice survivors.

HI FOLKS!
SAM RAINSY PARTY MAY FILE COMPLAIN AFTER THE PARTY LOSES THE ELECTION.
WATCH OUT CPP WILL KILL PEOPLE AND BURN THE PHNOM PENH CITY INTO ASHES IF THE PARTY DIDN'T WIN.
WHO IS THE BETTER IN THE CASE.
TRYING TO ACCUSE IS AN EASY THING FOR HUMANS... AND WE CALLED" DIFFAMATION" AND DIFFAMATION COULD BE SENT TO COURT TO CLEAN THE HONOUR OF THE DEFENDER...EVEN IN THE US !FORTUNATELY WE MAY HIDE BEHIND THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH TO ESCAPE FROM THE NOTION OF DIFFAMATION...
THE MOST DIFFICULT THING IS TO FIND THE MIDDLE WAY OF JUDGEMENT AND OPINIONS... WE NEED TO LEARN TO MAKE DISTINCTION BETWEEN DIFFAMTION AND PURE TRUTH... FAR FROM POLITICS... JUST A LESSON OF MORALITY! NOTHING ELSE!
I agree with 11:28 PM and thank you for your lesson of morality. I do accept!
I think that khmer americans must learn more about morality and compassion in order to give a value to their life.
