Four representatives of the villagers from the communes of Daung, Chamcar Leu, Banteay Staung, and Rong Roeung, brought their complaint to the Staung district chief, Kompong Thom province, against the Banteay Staung commune chief and two businessmen. The villagers accuse the three of confiscating 100-hectare of the lands which they lived on since 1979. The villagers are threatening to demonstrate before the commune election if nothing happens to their demand. According to Aing Ky, the Staung district chief, “the commune chief said he bought these lands from the villagers.” “An investigation has been called, claims from both sides must be verified,” Aing Ky said of this “complicated affair.”
