In response to a question by Kampuchea Thmei (KT) asking Sam Rainsy whether he is concerned with the fact that Pen Sovann has decided to join Kem Sokha’s fledgling party, Sam Rainsy answered: “I am not surprised by politicians joining or not joining (another political party), what is most important for me are the people who will provide the score.”
Sam Rainsy told KT that, currently, his party is working with the population at the local levels, and the people and his party understand each others, this is the most important issue. He said that: “We don’t want to compare any political party with my political party, and we must not compare the past with the present either. As this juncture where the Sam Rainsy party receives large popular support, it took me 15 years to reach this current shape. I think that for a newly formed party, it is not easy to set up a deep-rooted foundation.”
Sam Rainsy said: “Currently, the population has deep understanding. Therefore, they will make their selection based on actual actions undertaken by a political party, whether this party serves the common interest or it only serves the interest of some individuals. I think that a newly formed party this year will not be able to establish a strong foundation for next year.” Sam Rainsy made this remark without pointing to any particular individual or party, but he said that whenworking with people from overseas, great care must be taken because he had many past experiences with these people.
In conclusion, Sam Rainsy said that whether a party is successful or not does not depend on an individual making such claims, it depends entirely on the people who will decide their destiny. Sam Rainsy said that he is not concerned about those who join this or that party or not, because he is currently too busy working with the population at the local levels.
Pen Sovann, who was known as an important figure in the Cambodian political arena, had decided to participate in politics with Kem Sokha’s Human Rights Party recently. Pen Sovann told KT that the 3 reasons that led him to join HRP are: (1) I used to follow the biography of Kem Sokha for several years now, and his quality is that he places importance on serving the people, especially, when he was working at a human rights NGO; (2) Kem Sokha had the same views as Pen Sovann because he is determined to bring democracy to Cambodia, and he think about the national integrity first and foremost; (3) the HRP political goals is hooked to the people and it provides full freedom for people to express their opinion and freedom of living. There 3 trusts led Pen Sovann to decide to join Kem Sokha’s party.
Pen Sovann said that a political party which has a political strategy of using the people as its compass, is the party able to bring fast progress to the country.
When asked by KT about which position he wants within Kem Sokha’s party? Pen Sovann said that in joining the HRP, he did not bargain for any position. “I mainly want to serve the national interest. I struggled since I was 15-year-old and I am currently 71-year-old, I don’t want anything expect for political actions that serve the common interest of the nation only.”
Pen Sovann said that with so many political parties around why did he decide to join Kem Sokha’s party now. “In the past, I used to discuss with Funcinpec when Prince Ranariddh’s was at its helm, but now Funcinpec does not have a strong standing in terms of political goal towards national integrity. Later on, I discussed with the Sam Rainsy Party, but at the time, the SRP was like the Funcinpec also. Because I do not trust these two parties, that’s why right now, I decide to join Kem Sokha’s HRP instead.”

It's time to kick Hun Sen Ass out of Cambodia.comment by news Dick on the block.Mass.
Pen Sovann is joining Kem Sokha to clean his past communist name. Now I predict that once his name is well cleaned he will will make the next move by over come Kem Sokha. In conclusion these two men have diffenrent brains but directed by Hun Sen or Vietnam. He married to the former vietnamese president'niece.
Let's see...
Give Pen Sovan a second change. What can he do, the Vietminh kidnaped him since he was 11?
Jud people after he coometted the crime not before!
The one should put in jail are Hun Sen, Ranarith, Chacrapong, Hok Landy, and so on on CPP and Funcinpec and NRP.
Pen Sovann & Khem Sokha are critically working for someone else, especially for Hun Sen to survive till he is 90 years old..
This is logical because his appearance is only to defeat the democratic blog...
But when NRP, Funcipec, HRP and SRP can sit together and talk about building strong alliance, it will be headach for CPP..
However, present democratic popular SRP must be aware and mindful to such creating alliance..
I wish you all sucess. I hope 2008 will a new government, a government which can bring Camboddian people to move forward with strong economy, good employment, good housing, new roads, new hope for people to suceed their lives and new hope for new investors to invest in Cambodia. we hope that Cambodia can change from a country full of Chon Anthepeal into a country with wisemen.
