The SRP accused the CPP of issuing ID cards to youth under the legal voting age so that these youngsters can vote during the upcoming 2008 general election. In the statement issued on Saturday, the SRP said that the CPP uses the lowered age for issuing ID cards to inflate the number of CPP voters in the upcoming 2008 election. The Cambodia Daily reported that one SRP official said that the age to obtain an ID card was lowered from 18 to 15-year-old. The SRP indicated that the local authority will issue ID cards to the children of those people who voted for the CPP, to encourage these youngsters to vote illegally. CPP MP Sim Ka told The Cambodia Daily on Sunday that the SRP accusation was baseless. Tep Nytha, secretary-general of the National Election Committee (NEC) said that NEC officials will ensure that no one under the age of 18-year-old will be allowed to vote.
