SRP leader said on Sunday that his party is open to the possibility of forming a coalition government with the CPP, following the 2008 general election. Opposition leader Sam Rainsy declared that if his party continues to gain votes like it did during the commune election held last April, then the SRP could emerge from its usual role as an opposition party. The Cambodia Daily quoted Sam Rainsy declaring that: “We have scenarios according to which if the CPP wins the election, we will not oppose the forming of a coalition government.” However, Sam Rainsy said that if the SRP wins the election, his party could invite the CPP to participate in a coalition government.” Sam Rainsy said that himself and SRP officials have discussed on the possibility of forming a coalition government during a closed-door meeting held on Thursday in Phnom Penh.

The article in the Cambodia Daily, the SRP and FUNCIPEC is now fighting to please the CPP as a better coalition partner--what a sad state of politics in Cambodia. The two parties have now accept defeat before the election and fighting each other to be the better bitch of CPP.
