Original Report from Phnom Penh
15 October 2007
Less than a week before a registration deadline for next year's national elections, US Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli was set to observe the process in Phnom Penh, urging those who have not yet signed up for the polls to do so.
"Every Cambodian should be proud to exercise his or her right to vote," the ambassador said in a statement announcing his plans. "Cambodia has boasted strong voter turnout in the last three national elections. Now is the time to register and show the world that all Cambodians are keen to choose their leaders."
Mussomeli "will observe the commune clerk, commune chief, and commune council members as they receive the registration applications of potential new voters," the embassy said. "As an international observer, the ambassador will join other [National Election Committee]-approved observers and party agents in reviewing the registration process."
Cambodians have until Saturday to register.

Oh good, I hope people will stop making scene about the vote registration from now one.
Thank you your Excellency!
One additional more foreign observer of Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli remains insufficient.
The ex-communist CPP (former Cambodian People communist revolutionary party) is very shrewd in misleading the democratic person like the American diplomat.
Should have foreign observers like in 1993.
Remember CPP lost that election.
Well, the CPP is that good, then that is what Khmer People deserved. I mean good leadership. Isn't that what we all wanted?
Yes they are very good in luorge bonlom. Smuggling and stealing everything. Many vietnameses in Vietnam are suffering from drug smuggling as many of them are drug users.
Well then, tell the Vietnamese Administrator to look out for Drug dealers. We don't care about Vietnam's internal affair.
God Bless America & Cambodia! Thank you Mr. Ambassador!
Let Mr. Sam Rainsey take the driver seat in 2008! and bring America as close to home as possible! Cambodia should be just like another Isreal in Asia.
That's right! We're sick & tire of the ching chong Chang! Getta hell up North and back to your home!out!!
I don't know about that, 6:02. I think the US don't like anyone too close to the French because the French Veto against the Iraq war. I think Sam Rainsy is too close to the French right now if I am not mistaken.
Mr MUSSOMELI
AS CAMBODIAN AND FOR OTHER CAMBODIANS, WE ARE SO GRATEFUL FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE IN OBSERVING THE UPCOMING ELECTION.WE WOULD ALSO WISH THAT OTHER COUNTRIES COMMITTED FOR PEACE ACCORD IN PARIS CAN LEND A HAND AS WELL.
SIMPLY WE ALL WISH TO SEE A TRANSPARENT OUTCOME OUT OF THE ELECTION AND ALSO LOOKING FORWARD TO GET NATIONAL CONSTITUTION FULLY IMPLEMENTED.CAMBODIAN NATIONAL CONSTITUTION WAS A JOINT EFFORT OF INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT.TO BE FRUITFUL UNLESS A COMMITED GOVERNMENT ELECTED.
NEANG SA
