On Cambodia Independence

09 November 2007
OpEd by KONG Hean

For me, our poor motherland has lost its independence since the Socialist Republic of Vietnam waged its expansionist war against a sovereign Cambodia in December 1978. Therefore, we, Khmer people, had enjoyed our true indepenedence exactly 25 years before the infamous and illegal Vietnamese invasion. Cambodia has been a Vietnamese satellite state ever since. For how long? TWENTY EIGHT odd years.

Now comes the critical question. How to regain our independence?

There are, in fact, a few options:

1- Hun Sen government, in chorus with the National Assemby and the Senate, must declare void the supplemental treaty to the 4 treacherous treaties Heng Samrin and Hun Sen signed in 1979, 1982, 1983 and 1985 in violation of the spirit and the letter of the Paris Peace Agreements. This option triggers the question as to whether or not the CPP-controlled government and parliament would do it. To me, there is zero chance. So we go to the next option.

2- His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni can convene an international press conference (not a local one) and publicly declare void his royal signature and stamp sealed on the said supplemental treaty on November 30, 2005 by stating that he was ill-informed, hence making a huge mistake which was so detrimental to Cambodia and his subjects. Again, the question lies on whether or not our King would do it. Not a chance.

3- People Power like in Burma. It will certainly succeed. But the cost in human lives is certainly unimaginable. Are we prepared to risk our lives for the salvation of our country? We will certainly hear YES as an answer. How many precent of the whole Khmer population would say YES? It's at anyone's guess.

4- The SRP has actually 24 seats in the National Assembly. In our Constitution, an MP represents not only the people in his/her electorate. He/she represents the whole Khmer population. That article in the Constitution opens the opportunity to the 24 SRP MPs to officially write to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to convene follow-up meetings to assess whether or not the Paris Peace Agreements are fully observed by all parties. US Ambassador to Cambodia, Mr. Joseph A. Mussomeli, has stated quite a few times that, I quote, " The Paris Peace Accord has no expiration date", unquote.

It appears now that the only hope left for the whole Khmer race to redeem its dignity and honour is in the hands of those 24 SRP MPs. Their true colours will be revealed right after this comment of mine.

Yours, KONG Hean

Kong Hean,
Wake up,Cambodia never had its independence since 1700.

It must be a nightmare for you to to accept November 9,1953 a glorious day.How about October 9,1970 or April 17,1975 or January 7,1979 or November 1993 or July Coup in 1997,was it not also a joyous day?

Wow this is what comes to who Kong Hean is?

Actually this day was a day that puppet Sihanouk sold Prey Nokor to Yuon.

4:52, We normally don't commemorate Khmer struggling for power against each other, only those that involved foreigner. The Independence day involved the French, and the Liberation day involved the Vietnamese. And that is it. We would never celebrate Coupe days because then we will have too many holidays. Just imagine if the Thai were to celebrate their coup days, they will be having holiday every other days, and no work will get done, and the country will plundered into poverty. Do you get the idea?

What's difference in inedependence and liberation? One more, what's good with liberated but dependent? Too many holidays are no good, huh strange? Every day ought to be holiday because being alive not other way around.

So you say birthday and memorial day means the same?

Those nine ships should have been used for the Independence Day.

No! We're busy using these boats to patrol our off-shore oil. Perhaps next time.

Anonymous said...

I don't think we need to patrol our oil fiel, 5:59. The big boys are doing that for us free of charge. Plus, do you think we have much choices?

Mr. Kong Hean:

You're right about CPP and Royal. They both won't do a damp thing about Cambodia land and its people. They want to oppress our people and gave away land to Youn. We need people power to topple this regime for good.

This Royal have given away our khmer land to Hanoi two times already, one in 1949 and the other in 2005. When this stupid king and Hun Sen are still in power, we won't be in peace. Don't think Hanoi is in peace with us. If they're in peace and friend with us, they won't do that stupid things.

KHMER PEOPLE NEED TO TOPPLE HUN SEN FROM POWER!!! LIKE IN BURMA.

WE NEED TO SACRIFICE OUR LIVES TO OUR NATION.

DON'T BE AFRAID LIKE A CHICKEN.

BE BRAVE AND GO AGAINST AH HUN SEN REGIME.

SAMDACH SIHANOUK HAS GOTTEN HIS OLD PALACE BACK; HUN SEN AND VIETNAM GOT CAMBODIA TO WHERE IT HAS ALWAYS WANTED AND MORE. SO TOO, RANNARIDH HAS GOTTEN HIS FAIR SHARE OF LOOTING AND BLONDIES*. THE ORDINARY CAMBODIANS GOT SCREWED BIG TIME. IN TWENTY YEARS THERE WILL BE MORE YOUNS IN CAMBODIA PROPER THAN ANYONE COULD EVER IMAGINE. IN TWENTY FIVE YEARS ALL THE BABY BOOMERS ARE GONE. THE YOUNGER GENERATIONS WILL BE CONTESTING FOR THEIR ORIGINAL RIGHTS AT THE UN LIKE OUR BROTHERS IN KAMPUCHEA KROM ARE FIGHTING FOR RIGHT NOW. YOUN WON'T HAVE TO PROSECUTE VEN. TIM SAKHORN IN VIETNAM ANYMORE, IT WILL BE DONE TO ALL OF US RIGHT IN THE HEART OF NAM YANG FORMALLY KNOWN AS PHNOM PENH. WAKE UP PEOPLE.

Go join SRP or HRP but not FUNC or NRP and definitely not KPP...no gun now.

I call for all Khmer to join an arm movement. We need to put our little money together, and buy guns and weapons and kill all the insurgents Youns to reclaim our indipendence.

Fight, people, let's fight. Let's keep fighting until we gain our country back. Fuck all those guys who claim to liberate Cambodia through nonviolence. It's impossible for us to have a negotiation position against Youn.

Kong Hean & Everybody,

Your 4 scenarios to solve Cambodian problem for independence are sound and viable. Our independent day is abused by Vietnam because they tried defrocked monk Tim Sakhorn. This is usual politics for Vietnam that they always do anything in the public to insult Cambodian people.

Venerable Tim Sakhorn is Khmer, 100% Khmers. But the friendship of Vietnam-Cambodia (legacy of Indochinese Federation from 1930), Hun Sen government defrocked Venerable Tim Sakhorn and sent him to be tried in an alien country.

In order to retain their friendship, Cambodian government can do everything towards their own Cambodian people, in case of Venerable Tim Sakhorn, to favor their so-called relationship; and especially CPP has been violating Paris Peace Agreement and exploited Cambodian people through uncountable so-called bilateral corporations and agreements with their friendly partner(Vietnam).

We can notice that since 1930 of the creation of Indochinese Federation to present of 2007 that their objectives and procedures are not different. Their objectives are "to preserve the special relationship between the Vietnamese people and the people of Laos and Cambodia; and to strengthen military solidarity, mutual trust, long term corporation and mutual assistance in all fields..." (Read Vietnam Join the World by James William Morley, Masashi Nishihara).

Under our present Sam Kok leaders: Chea Sim, Heng Samrin and Hun Sen; we are hopeless from their political will and effort to free Cambodia from Vietnam. But we still hope and believe that when these Sam Kok dare sacrifice their power and position, and importantly when CPP's members who can see the danger of Vietnam-Cambodia relationship, dare wake up to reform CPP, in that time we can see a glimpse of real independence in Cambodia.

According to your scenarios, it will not work with option 1 (because they are absolute lackey and frightened), option 2 (because our Somdech Ta's vision is to maintain royal throne first, the rests are vice versa), option 2 (Cambodian people are too exhaust and fearful), but option 3 might be possible that we must help supplement the seats for SRP.

And I have two effective scenarios: firstly, the movement must start from internal CPP because I do believe there are many CPP's members are potentially be able to revive independence for Cambodia from such tricky relationship; and secondly do whatever to uplift SRP to become government party or lead the country in 2008. So that, Cambodia will have its full own independent decision-making without paying gratitute to anybody or being a lackey because their help or long lasting friendship signatory.

Note: when SRP comes to power, they must keep relationship with all neighboring countries and other international nations. But with Vietnam, SRP must not follow the nature of relation like present Cambodian government led by CPP.

They celebrates independence Yuon Vietminh.

The Yuon Viet Minh troops in Cambodia continued to expand gradually as the political and military situation of the regimein power deteriorated. Under the
pretext of bringing military assistance for independence in Cambodia, the Yuon Viet Minh forces established themselves more and more deeply in Cambodia. Their method was to move into certain frontier regions to facilitate taking over particular areas in the interior of Cambodia just before the singing of the Geneva
agreements in 1954.

These areas of Yuon Viet Minh control were then expanded according to the “oil spot” or “leopard spot” concept.

If King Sihanouk sold Prey Nokor to Yuon and where is the document of the sale agreement? But I do have the document that the French handed Prey Nokor to the Viet in 1949!

Anonymous said...

216am,
That's it.Did you see French handed Prey Nokor to Yuon over Sihanouk head?

Anonymous said...

That's right, France handed Kampuchea Krom to Yuon over Sihanouk HEADS with two hands.
Sihanouk'd accepted without let KHMER Protested, even Khmer Krom Cry without tears!
Sihanouk still silent, He scared yuon very very much. especially his yuon wife.

It make no difference what the france did in 1949. The defeat of the French in 1954 will make everything belong to Vietnam. Moreover, the defeat of the South Vietnam in 1975 made everything belong to Hanoi.

So what is your point, 4:55?

Anonymous said...

What are you telling us (Khmer)even Cambodia is belong to Hanoi?
Because the defeated of Pol Pot?
Is that what your point. 6:24AM?

Anonymous said...

Yeah that right, 7:43, but Hanoi gave Cambodia back to Khmer people; Plus they also help us to develop our country. So now we are best Pal. Yol te?

Eh, yol huey, yuon never best pal with cambodia, but, if yuon consider a best pal then yuon must be controlled cambodia already.
