Mr Hun Sen would like to think that he is the Robin Hood of Cambodia, but the fact is that he is the “Robber Hood” of Cambodia."
I am baffled with the fact that the Hun Sen government, in the name of development, has continued to forcibly evict people from their homes without adequately compensating them (click here to read the article). Using development as a pretext, the authorities with vested interests, often working for powerful people and corrupt companies, have carried out numerous brutal and inhuman evictions of the powerless and the defenceless people. I have said before that if a member of parliament (Son Chhay) can be forced to sell his land at peanut price, what chance do the poor and the defenceless has to defend their lands?

Time and again, it has been proven that the authorities, without regard for human rights and human dignity, continued the evictions regardless of the outcry from the international human rights groups such as Amnesty International. Evictions and land confiscations, often carried out due to the connivance between corrupt officials and greedy developers, are in fact land robbery in disguise. Often, the confiscated lands are re-sold to developers and those corrupt officials, not the state treasury, would pocket the proceeds. Land confiscations were often carried out at the order of government officials at the highest level of the Cambodian leadership. Using the name of rich and powerful businesspeople such as the Phanpimex company, Yeay Phu and Sok Kong, as a front many corrupt leaders the like of Sok An, and possibly Hun Sen himself, owned large vast areas of high prime real estate concessions in the capital Phnom Penh, Angkor-Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and Bokor. These kinds of corrupt actions and behaviours must stop.

I believe, and many of my Khmer compatriots would have agreed with me, that Cambodia needs development and it needed it badly. But development must go hand in hand with regard to the respect for human rights and human dignity. The process of development must be transparent and the poor and the needy must reap real benefits, not the corrupt officials and the developers.

What we are seeing today is that developments, carried out under the auspicious of Mr Hun Sen’s government, have been used as a front for land robbery and proceeded with no sight of real benefits being passed on to the poor and the needy. Instead they have become the victims of these sham developments, as many of them have been brutally forced out of their lands. These kinds of developments, not only that they didn’t help the poor and the needy but instead, would push them deep further and further into poverty.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has publicly declared that his government has genuine political will to lift the living standard of the Khmer people and to alleviate, and possibly eliminate, poverty, but developments in a fashion of “robbing from the poor to give to the rich” will cause the El Nino Effect- creating more poverty. Mr Hun Sen would like to think that he is the Robin Hood of Cambodia, but the fact is that he is the “Robber Hood” of Cambodia.

The Phnom Penh has no sympathy whatsoever for the evicted families, living under harsh conditions. The inconvenience around the area has completely paralized them, limiting ability to sustain their surviving on a daily basis.

Unambiguously, Khmers have been victimized by their own leaders, dispite the AI's suggestion.

Just as moi states in my song
"Hey! Hey! We're The Humans."

The area is belong to the states, therefore the government can ask them to leave. They have been compensated. so they should be happy and go away.

You cannot act as poor people and try to grab state's land and private land. this is the case in Cambodia.

Poor people has used this scenario in Phnom Penh right now.

I have friends who has to deal this on his own land.

I am so pity for the poor, but not when they rob someone.

Although this is by and large a sensible commentary on the forced land evictions, it paints a picture with too broad strokes. Each situation is different, a round-house condemnation is uncalled for. Sometimes people do not own the land they occupy, sometimes they own it by possession, meaning they have lived on it for 5 years; sometimes it is development of unsanitary slums, squatters, etc. It is very difficult to judge all this from afar. Human rights organizations do a job in general, but their assessments are sometimes questionable too. People need to go there and talk to the victims, to the ministry, to the local government to form a valid opinion. Of course, those abuses do occur, but let's not lump everything together indiscriminately.

12:50 When you say select NEW ONE. Who can run the country??? You have to look at their ability before you change new branch.

we are talking about life of cambodia as a whole(security, health, economic).

If you can identify a good candidate to run Cambodia I will follow.

To 1:58 AM,
The good, and even the better candidate, is Sam Rainsy or even Kem Sokha. In America, Australia, UK, Canada and France they changed their leaders every 3-5 years. Look at their countries, they progressed so fast. Hun Sen has been in power for 29 years and look at Cambodia, the poorer are getting porer and the rich and the powerful are getting richer and more powerful. Some people seemed to think that only Hun Sen and his CPP is the only one who can run the country. The fact is that he ruined the country and that we have to try a new one, like in the West.

Any body know Robin Hood? He is a legendary man who are very well-known in stealing the rich to offer to the poor.

But this is good analogy for Hun Sen administration who is stealing the poor to offer to the rich!

Great work Khmerization!

Would like to draw your attention about change in leader in Australia or New Zealand.

They don't simply change the government/leader every 3 -5 years yes you stated.

The former PM of Australia [John Howard from coalition government = Liberal+National party] was in office for 11 consecutive years [1996 - 2007] and was voted out in 26 November 2007 election.

The current government under the leadership of Kevin Rudd [Labor party] is holding the post until the next election unless he may call for early election [should he confident about his policy for the country and belief in his popularity which always be the case for leader of Australia to do] and being voted out.

By the way, Australia and New Zealand do not practice the way USA does - limited to presidency term of 2 consecutive terms, their leaders will always be the leaders if their party support [unless there will be any challenge to leadership in the party] for him or her [Kevin Rudd PM of Australia, or Female PM Helen Clark of New Zealand] and the party will be elected to lead the country.

To 5:14am, excellent details!!. In retrospect to reminiscences of previous elections, CPP have had retained the most seats in the National Assembly. As long as CPP is remained in the control of power, inevitably members of the CPP are unanimously to re-appoint the prime miniter Hun Sen for the next candidate in the national general election.

In the upcoming national general election, it's very crucial for the Cambodian people to elect their leader, if they want change.

With my perception of political situations in Cambodia, CPP is to remain in control the government. It's so true, we need to recognize that. Demanding change by discussions,no actions, it is never going to happen.

This is usual to Hun Sen Govern, they are outlaw. I think Kon Khmer should end this with warfare, otherwise, that will be unable to solve and Khmer continue to suffer every day from a prtext of development, but rob land instead.

9:20PM, then I have to study those group. At some forms, many compatriots become a bait to its political ignorance, some got hung, killed, e.g. CFF led by Chhun Yasith. Also, the formation should be clear from terrorism, otherwise, the accusation and prosecution will be thereafter.

9:20 is Pol Pot's close relative. They all want to get rid of the riches that build our country and bring us all back to what he called "Year Zero".
