Translated from Khmer by Socheata

During a recent questioning session conducted by the co-prosecutors behind closed door, Nuon Chea, dubbed Brother No. 2 of the Democratic Kampuchea (DK) regime, denied all the accusations leveled against him in his crime against humanity case. Nuon Chea said that if he committed these illegal activities as he is charged with, he would be very ashamed about his actions. Nuon Chea said that he was not in contact with the local grass root levels, therefore, he did not know what happened at all. He said that the true power during the DK regime lied in the hands of the army committee which he was not part of. He replied also that he was a member of the legislative branch, and he never introduced any law to kill his own nation. He said that about 40 members of his own family also died during that era. He added hat after he defected to the Cambodia government, he lived freely without anything ever happening to him, and he has no intention of destroying any proof or put pressure on anybody because he does not have a cruel character since he used to be a monk in the past.

look, these old leaders did not have to actually killed people to be called the khmer rouge or communist cambodia. it was their leadership echalon, their backward vision, and their failure to turn around their obviously failed policy. now they want to claim that they were helpless and didn't know all the atrocity going on under their utra-revolutionary vision? give me a break, we are not that dumb.

what was that all about? making everyone wear black clothing and sandals made from car tires. what kind of fucked up gov't vision was that? they abandoned any form of education, abandoned the economy, make people starve and eat in a communal kitchen. what was that all about? the whole cambodia was like a prison, where everyone was being treated like a criminal. what was that all about?. cambodian people, please ask them this question over and over again and again. what was that all about? if you ask me, that was pure stupid, dumb, ignorant, cruel, abuse, injustice, genocide, dictator, etc, etc... cambodia don't need this kind of leadership again in its history. it was like a 10 year-old running the country, a blind leading the blind, the ignorant educating the doctor, phd, etc, etc... that's what it was; and more to it... it was also involved with hatred, revenge, jealousy, control, force, fearful of retaliation or up-raising...

Maybe he didn't kill Khmer people. Guess where the black sandals and black trousers came from? From black teeth people of northern. The Chinese thieves.

for once, admit their mistakes and take responsibility for their own revolutionary vision. pointing fingers make one looks so childish. it's better to admit mistakes and ask for forgiveness, maybe the court could reconsider. show the court they repented, maybe the court can give mercy. plus, by admitting mistakes were made, they can feel better, too. let it all be a lesson for future cambodia and the world.

this is called accountability. leaders must take accountability for their policy, even if the village leaders were the one that do most of the killing of cambodians. were there jusice in place for the people under the KR rule? none!! so, there you are!
