The strike with the planned participation of about 100,000 garment workers announced by Chea Mony, President of the Free Trade Union of Workers in the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC), and which should take place for three days starting Thursday 27 March, has been delayed for now. The Mekong Times quoted Chea Mony as saying on Wednesday that the reason for this delay is due to an invitation letter sent by Van Sou Eang, President of the Garment Manufacturing Association of Cambodia (GMAC), to union leaders for a meeting on Monday of next week to discuss the workers’ salary. Chea Mony hopes that during this meeting, the union demand for a $5 monthly salary raise will be met.
