Chea Mony, President of the Free Trade Union of Workers in the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC), issued a warning during a press conference held on Sunday that more than 100,000 garment workers will hold a mass demonstration if the government does not reply for the multiple written requests made by union representatives for a $5 monthly salary increase, in addition to the current $50 monthly salary the workers now receive. Chea Mony said that in the first step of this mass demonstration, all work will stop in all garment factories for a period of 3 days starting 27 March. Chea Mony said that if the government still refuses to reply to the workers request, the strike will be extended to one week long with protest march along the streets. Rong Chhun, President of the Cambodia Independent Teachers’ Association (CITA) also warned on Sunday that a mass demonstration will take place immediately if the teachers’ request for a reduction of price of goods is not met with any government resolution. Pa Socheatvong, the Phnom Penh deputy governor, said that the preparation for the demonstration by the teachers regarding skyrocketing goods price will not be good and it could affect national security.

i think demonstration is a good thing for cambodia to let gov't know that not everyone is happy with their inaction or their not doing enough for our cambodian people or for our country. and demonstration should always be non-violent, gandhi's way; this way it speaks louder than one can imagine because sometime, the general public can see justice better than gov't can, so they say, it takes a village to raise the family.

True, but in this case the government already know people is having a hard live. Thus, what is the sense of telling them what they already know?

The government wish they can give a lot more than the stupid $5, but they can't. It will be to risky to force corporation at this point. They could pack up and go to Burma or Laos, then we be in deeper shit. Is it really worth it?

Ok, that is a deal than, No need to raise $5, because we are all afraid that they will leave to other countries. How about our workers go to work hungry due to the prices of goods? Can the govenment do something to keep the price of goods down? it's inbalance now!

Yes, the government always promoting competition to fight inflation, but with the damn fuel price keep on climbing, it is rather hard on everyone, employees and employers alike.
