Mr Noppadon said he had asked China to help negotiate with a Chinese construction firm hired to build a road near the disputed area, asking that its work be stopped. The company has complied with the request, which was made during Mr Noppadon's visit to Beijing during Songkran, he said. The Foreign Ministry has called on other state agencies to help tackle the dispute with Cambodia over the Preah Vihear temple, saying it was a complicated issue. The call was made by Foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama yesterday during a meeting of security agencies at Government House.
Mr Noppadon said he raised the issue at the meeting as he did not want the Foreign Ministry to handle the issue alone.
''The issue should be handled jointly by different agencies,'' he said, adding that the army could, for example, help clear landmines while the Culture Ministry could look at improving the physical surroundings of the area in dispute. The Prime Minister's Office will help promote understanding among local people.
Last Thursday the government submitted an aide-memoire to Cambodian Ambassador Ung Sean to protest against Cambodian troop deployment at the ancient temple, which is on the border near Si Sa Ket province.
The government said the deployment of troops by Cambodia violates Thailand's territorial sovereignty in the overlapping areas along the border and was also against the spirit of a Memorandum of Understanding made in 2000 between the two countries concerning the area around the Preah Vihear temple.
Phnom Penh summoned Thai ambassador Viraphand Vacharathit to deny all the allegations the day after Thailand summoned the Cambodian ambassador. It was the fourth time Thailand has protested to Cambodia over the issue. Previous protests were in 2004, 2005 and 2007, and involved the construction of a road, a community and permanent buildings in the north and western part of the temple.
Cambodia has also conducted de-mining activities in the western part of the temple.
''I will wait to negotiate this issue with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An,'' said Mr Noppadon, adding however that Mr Sok An's official visit has yet to be scheduled.
Cambodia's deputy prime minister postponed his last trip to Bangkok, scheduled at the end of February.
Mr Noppadon said he had asked China to help negotiate with a Chinese construction firm hired to build a road near the disputed area, asking that its work be stopped. The company has complied with the request, which was made during Mr Noppadon's visit to Beijing during Songkran, he said.
There was a dispute between the two countries in 2001 when Cambodia asked the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation to put the ancient Khmer temple ruins, called Khao Phra Viharn in Thai, on the World Heritage List.
Thailand, however, wanted to have a role in the proposal as the border between the two countries has yet to be clearly marked.
The World Heritage Committee agreed to postpone its decision. Cambodia decided to re-submit its proposal without Thailand this year.

Come on Siam, you'd better stop being an agressor toward Khmer. The whole world knows that Cambodia won its Hague trial in 1962. The international court in the Hague officially acknowledged that Cambodia had clear legal title to Preah Vihear and its sacred temple.
The fucken Thaicong is using China to put pressure on Cambodia?
It seems that the fucken Thaicong will stop at nothing just to pursuit their blind ambition to gain anything belong to Khmer people! I swear to God if they do the fucken Thaicong will go to hell for it!
The fucken Thaicong will burn in hell if they dare touch Khmer sacred Phrea Vihear temple!
Dear 8:58 AM,
I understand your frustration. I am also outraged about what Thailand is doing. However, your being wild does not help our cause at all.
If you want to do something constructive, please post some facts so that I can tell other people about how and when the international court awarded the temple to our country.
I almost did not read your post when seeing all the foul languages you are using.
We Cambodians let our emotions get the better of us. We got bullied by stronger neighbors, we reacted wildly to show the world how mad we are. End results: we lost our land and the world think that we are the bad guys.
During Vietnam war, our neighbors killed our people silently, but when we fought back, we did it publicly- bodies floating down the river; we became the bad guys.
We will continue getting the wrong ends (both sides) of the stick if we cannot control our emotion.
So please be constructive, put something up so I can use to present our case and to better educate others. I sure cannot go on stage and repeat what you said and expect other to support our cases.
Please help constructively.
"We Cambodians let our emotions get the better of us."
I don't think so! It is the tradition of every Thaicong government to demand everything belong to Khmer through politic, through economic, and through religion to win popular sentiment to show off the Thaicong nationalist and to win the vote among the Thaicong population!
By the way, the world don't give a fuck about Cambodia and
the world can careless if Cambodia has more instability which force every dirt poor Cambodian people to give up everything they have as a people and as nation!
When the Vietcong government oppressed over 10 million Khmer Krom people and the world don't even bother about it except to keep on blaming the victim! Sometime I don't even know what kind a world we live in right now! This is a dog eat dog world!
I am in agreemnet with 11:17AM comments that 8:58AM should could down his rethorics. The thai goverment disregarded the world court decision that says the Preah Vihear temple and the TEMPLE SURROUNDING areas khmer terrotories. We should hit back at the thai goverment where it them hurts most. Let us BOYCOTT ALL THAI BUSINESSES and BANK LOANS in Cambodia until the thai gevernment becomes sane again. We can do without thai products indefinitely.
To 2:16PM
I don't need to tone down my rhetoric because you haven’t seen what I had seen the ways the Thaicong had treated those unfortunate Khmer people during the Vietcong invasion of Cambodia in 1979!
The Thaicong will always kill the Khmer people whether the Khmer people want to tone down their rhetoric or not!
The hatred of the Thaicong toward the Khmer people run so deep that some of the Khmer people don't even believe what the hell that I am talking about! I know it takes time to sink in once you get hit by the reality! Those stupid Khmer people who love the Thaicong so much because they have so much self-hatred!
