Thailand will not prevent the listing of Cambodia’s Preah Vihear Temple as a World Heritage Site. Nevertheless, the Thai Foreign Minister (FM) insists on reminding about his country’s position, through a 3-page communiqué made public on 23 May.
The Thai reminder was distributed while a Cambodian delegation is now in Paris, since 20 May, to defend the development project for the site with UNESCO.
Through its communiqué, Thailand recognizes that the temple is located inside Cambodia borders, according to “the decision handed down by The Hague International Court of Justice.” Nevertheless, the Thai FM criticized the delineation of the Preah Vihear site. According to the Thai FM, on the map sent to UNESCO by Cambodia, the (border) demarcation encroaches on Thailand’s territory and “attacks the territorial sovereignty and integrity” of his country.
Phay Siphan, spokesman of the Council of Ministers of Cambodia, told Cambodge Soir Hebdo that “this delineation was not meant to be borderline.” But, he did not confirm nor deny the encroachment of the site on Thai territory.
The Thai FM judged in his communiqué that “the temple must be protected to become a symbol of strong solidarity between the two countries.”
The Thai formula may not be sufficient to snuff out the polemics between the two countries through the news media, starting from the time when the listing of the Preah Vihear temple was a news topic.

Siamese is actually bullying Khmer people, Siamese is encroaching Khmer territory many occasions in Banteay Meanchey provice,OddarM..,and Preah V.. Thailand is sitting on active faults which could cause a powerful earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale or more, a seminar was told yesterday. Panithan Lakkhunaprasit, of Chulalongkorn University which organised the seminar, said layers of soft sediment from the Chao Phraya river would increase the severity of the tremors fourfold in Bangkok. For so many years Thailand has been trying to rewrite history of their nation. They know truly and factually Khmer was the only dominating Kingdom in the area. To truly make Thailand the superior nation over Cambodia is to overtaken was Khmer's from the ancient world and that including Khmer civilization. So far, they have recreated their history to fool their kids and people that it was their Kings who rule the area. They have taken large numbers of ancient Khmer artifacts and rename them as Thais to be displayed or sold to the world. They have annexed a huge part of Khmer land along with temples and Khmer people and force to learn Thai and use their identify as legitimacy to claim of Khmer properties. Cambodia must be smart and undaunted to fight against the two evils East and West. They are not the neighbors for mutual interest.
