The post of Phnom Penh governor will be given to Hun Neng or Pa Socheatvong

Khmer Nation newspaper
9th March, 2009
Reported in Khmer by Khmerization

There are many reports in the past that Prime Minister Hun Sen plans to remove Mr. Kep Chutema, the current governor, and replace him with someone else.

Sources from within Mr. Hun Sen’s Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) said Mr. Kep Chutema’s replacement could be Mr. Hun Sen’s older brother, Mr. Hun Neng, who is currently the governor of his home province of Kampong Cham, or someone else, presumably Mr. Pa Socheatvong, the current deputy governor. But the reports have been dismissed in the past by Mr. Hun Sen or his officials.

Sources from the CPP added that Mr. Kep Chutema (pictured) will be given a powerless role of president of Municipal Council. The sources also said that current governors of many cities and provinces will be reshuffled to the powerless posts of presidents Municipal or Provincial Councils.

The Khmer Nation newspaper reports that, according to the CPP sources, when he heard that he will be removed from the governorship of Phnom Penh, Mr. Kep Chutema was very unhappy because it means that he will be taken out from a plum post where he can earn a lot of extra money.

The same CPP sources said that Mr. Hun Neng, older brother of Prime Minister Hun Sen, has been eyeing the Phnom Penh governorship for a very long time. The same with Mr. Pa Socheatvong, the current deputy governor. And as a result both will have to fight for the position.

i think whoever has a good vision for phnom penh and who can do a good job as a good leader, go for it. more power to them. it is the stupid and the dumby that we have to worry about. if phnom penh will become a metropolitan, cosmopolitan city with better planning and better public services and better infrastructure and so on, then more power to the new governor, regardless of who. think it is the smartness and the enabled and the capacable person is what we all need to represent us, not the other way around. so, he the person meets that requirements, i would lose my sleep about it at all! god bless cambodia.

I agree with 2:29am. The post of Phnom Penh governor should go to the most capable person, but I don't think the names mentioned in this article are capable enough to run Phnom Penh. They got or will get the post because they are related to or are cronies of Hun Sen. I think Chea Sophara is very capable, but because Hun Sen worry about Sophara's capability and his popularity he sacked Chea Sophara for no reason.

Karma will punish hun sen and his associates for all the bad deeds that he incurred

what? mr hun sen has no right whatsoever to remove mr kep chutoma. The people of phnom penh are the ones who will vote for a governor of phnom penh, not mr. hun sen family. This is exactly what the communist cpp would do, appointing potatohead persons to head a city. Phnom penh doesn't belong to hun sen family--it belongs to the people of that city, so its not for hun sen to decide who he want to appoint to be the governor. Mr hun sen will violate the rights of people if he remove the current governor and replace him with one of his own. Could hun sen be afraid of internal uprising against him? Karma will catch up with hun sen sooner or later

They are dogs eat dogs. Hun Sen being the top dog who shuffles his subordinates around for bribe money or to keep them happy to be his puppets. None of them will use their brains for the future of Phnom Penh. They are just the support roles for the CPP initiatives and everything be ordered down by Hun Sen to align his political views with Vietnam's wish list.

Also, don't forget that Hun Sen has his dark-force advisors, so it'd be difficult to get close to him (physically)-- not to mention his 3000 plus bodyguards.
