Seng Theary, Director of the Center for Social Development (CSD), considers the recent declaration made by PM Hun Sen in regards to the number of suspects to be charged by the KR Tribunal (KRT) as a political interference.
Seng Theary said: “Now we can see that the KRT has charged only 5 individuals, as for the PM, I think that his action is illegal because he cannot interfere with the court system which must remain independent. He raised the issue that there should be no more than 5 persons being charged [by the KRT], this is political interference, however, the court must remain independent.”
Following the alleged corruption perpetrated by the KRT employees, a report indicated that employees had to pay salary kickbacks to their bosses in order to keep their jobs. Furthermore, regarding the claim that Hun Sen interferes in the KRT, Hun Sen angrily replied to this charge by saying that the UN should be the first one to be brought to court because it always supported the KR.
Hun Sen declared: “If there was no 07 January, there would be no today either, there would not be any human rights to come and make all these claims. The human rights chief, they were rice thieves [under Pol Pot], they are 100-cow puppets, at that time [Pol Pot era], they bowed their heads to Ah Pot [Pol Pot: then-Hun Sen’s boss], they carried the dirt in the country also. They never talked about human rights during that time (Pol Pot era) because a number of groups knew that Pol Pot killed people between 75 to 79, so why do they support Pol Pot until 1993? If they did not know, they are not at fault, but if they knew and they still get involved with it, then their sentence should be even more serious than Ah Pot. If there is a judgment, the UN should be sentenced first, the UN itself should be sentenced, including all those countries that supported Pol Pot at the UN between 1979 and 1991. Now you are proud to judge this and that, nonstop. I just saw the declaration, I received the report, this issue must end. It must stop! This person is this, that person is that, how can there be so many issues? We judged them [KR leaders] in 1979, but you do not recognize it and you want to continue. With the new judgment, it is so complicated and it costs several hundreds of millions.”
The above statement made by Hun Sen clearly shows that the government is interfering with the independence of the KRT.

Would donors continue to throw more multimillion of dollars to this fake trial? You hear that? Hun Sen suggested that UN has to stand trial for supporting the KR.
You may try to escape justice, mr hun sen, but no matter how you manipulate the justice system in cambodia, you will face justice one day. we know the current cambodian judicial system is under the order of cpp and is biased, turning a blind eye to countless crimes such as the killing of journalists. Whether you like it or not, the KRT will seek to include those who commited crimes against humanity (that could include hun sen). Just because you are a pm does not mean that you are above the law; what you did in the past will come back to haunt you. Here, the KRT is analogous to karma. It is clear that mr hun sen's blood is boiling as the KRT is looking into bringing more former khmer rouge cadre to the trial. This will be difficult, if not impossible, since most gov positions in the current cambodian government are occupied by former khmer rouge murderers. YOu can play this game of escaping justice all you want, mr hun sen. But in the end you and other KR murderers will be put on trial and sentenced to the degree of their crime.
I don't think the Khmer Rouge Tribunal is a fair trial.

Is it true that most of the Khmer in Cambodia used live in the Khmer Rouge regime? Why do the court want the Vietnamese to be the witness?
This court is wrong when it starts. It should not be happening in Cambodia. If it wants to be a fair trial, it should happen in The Hague where the International Court is.
Millions of the Khmer died during this time, it cannot be just brought 4 or 5 people to the trial and the rest seating home and watching the trial.
The top leaders of Khmer Rouge ordered to kill innocent Khmers, but it does mean that the people who actually took the order and killed the people are not guilty.
All the people who involved with the Khmer Rouge, at least, be trialed. They must pay for what they did, included all the leaders of current Cambodia who involved with the Pol Pot regime.
It will be great to see Pen Sovanh will be at the Khmer Rouge Trial because he is a real Khmer Communist and he has lots of things to say about how the Real Khmer Communist turned into the Khmer Rouge regime.......

It is a strategy designed by the Vietnamese and the US to prove China is guity of crime in Cambodia not Vietnamese, but the Vietnamese did it. Also the US wants also to embarrass China for economic power reasons by paying the Vietnamese to create this trial. It is a little late, because China now rules the world with her economic power. The UN alway support government include the CPP who is a big Human RIGHTS violator at most time they are responsible for many death in the 1997 coup, or the mass eviction issues in Cambodia now are no different to the KR era.
I do not pay my attention to Khmer Rough Tribunal at all. I know from the beginning that it would fail. What I really appreciate HUN SEN is that he is very good at cheating donors. Even United Nation is also being cheated by HUN SEN.

Yes Theary Seng's argument is quite right, and so is Hun Sen and Vietnam. They are all right in the time of need for money & political strategy to ease the pain of the people and ease the anxieties of the donors.

The Trial will end when Washington says END. With China economic power rises like Mushroom all over the world like this, the trial keeps going, unless China helps to bail out world financial troubles caused by the US.

At this time none of the 3 parties, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia would dare to talk about the border issue. Something will happen after the recession or depression is over. Looklike this world financial trouble won't go away so soon.
