Commune officials want to resolve this conflict quickly, the families involved want to pursue the negotiations.
On Monday 27 April, families residing inside and around Building C of the French high school could be evicted. In a letter dated 20 April and sent to the families involved, Sok Sambath, the Daun Penh district governor, indicated that: “the district authorities will take severe measures” against families who will not accept the housing offer, i.e. a plot of land of 8-by-4-meter located 10 kilometers away from their current home and a compensation varying between $5,000 and $10,000.
For now, 24 of the 37 families involved still hope to find for a better agreement.
