Saroeun couldn’t take it that his wife is keeping away from him since their wedding. He decided to put an end to it all.
Saroeun and Siden married each other 6 months ago. But, according to their neighbors at the Chhouk village (Oddar Meanchey province), the young couple are sleeping separately for some time now. Saroeun fixed motorcycles while Siden took care of a small shop in front of her house. They do not see each other much at all.
Local Cambodian newspapers reported that, in the evening of 21 June, Saroeun decided to put an end to his life and that of his wife by burning themselves up with 8 liters of gasoline. Saroeun died on the spot, whereas Siden died in the vehicle carrying her to the hospital.
Their neighbors reported that Saroeun was angry against his wife quite often because she refused him all sexual relationships. Some of the neighbors linked this refusal to possible mental trouble with Siden. Nevertheless, Saroeun despised having to sleep separately from his wife since their wedding.
Siden’s parents do not know the cause of the suicide, but they do not believe that this sexual relationship story could be the cause of it. They knew that their daughter and their son-in-law do not get along with each other, and that they fought each other quite often.
Saroeun and Siden’s bodies were returned separately to their respective families, and the cremation ceremony for the pair was held separately also. According to popular belief, this process should avoid any conflict among the pair in their future life.

talk about a crazy person here. cambodia needs a lot more psychiatric intervention in its society to solve problem like this one.
No need for interventions or a psychiatric. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the couple.
The symtom is a result of a so-called "arrainged marriage."
More like a "force Marriage," if you ask me.
The origin of this common problem is the guy/girl parents. Khmer people need to stop this tradition (arrainged/force marriage) crap altogether. They need to understand that, not all couples can be bound together will live/love one another.
Shame on the parents and this traditions of inhumane pratice.
Choap twer jerng!
good point, arranged marriage was historically reserved for the privileged few or higher class of people in our ancient custom. you're right to point it out because we've all seen or known someone in cambodia they were arranged marriage and end up not happy together and fight a lot and affect the small children. i think this area of our khmer custom and tradition need to reform or change a little so people don't end up killing each other because they don't really love each other truly, just an arranged marriage to please the elderly like their parents, etc... see what happen in this case. too much arranged marriage! i think marriage should allow the couple to get to know each other first and make sure they truly love each other first, not just to please their parents, etc... not good, really! i hope people think about it. another way out is divorce. so, stop feeling sorry too much about yourself and be strong to speak out sometime.
