HA NOI — Viet Nam’s Military Telecom Corporation (Viettel) is now the largest telecommunications service provider in Cambodia, after launching its Metfone mobile service network in the Kingdom six months ago.
Metfone currently accounts for 60 per cent of all ADSL services and 50 per cent of the fixed phone market. It has 2 million mobile subscribers, ranking second among nine mobile service providers in Cambodia.
To facilitate the Cambodian people’s access to fundamental telecommunications services, Metfone has reduced its mobile service charges from 11 cents per minute to 9 cents per minute, and expects to adjust it down even further in the near future.
Additionally, Metfone is the sole provider of all telecommunications services in Cambodia, with its product distribution network covering even the most remote and isolated communes. It is also the sole provider of wireless fixed phone services, with nearly 20,000 subscribers in the country.
Along with business development in Cambodia, Viettel has invested US$5 million to carry out a three-year programme to introduce the internet to schools, subsidised 50 per cent of wireless fixed and mobile phone charges for poor people and sponsored an online television system, connecting the Government to localities across the country.
Metfone is expected to earn revenue of $50 million this year and provide 3G services in Cambodia early next year.
Metfone is also expected to have 2.6 million mobile subscribers and 3,000 transceiver stations covering all 24 provinces and cities of Cambodia, and the ability to provide affordable, high-quality services for customers by 2010.

If Cambodia loses its national revenue, it loses it the most by being stolen by Hun Sen to feed his 4,000 bodyguards. $600x4,000/month=2,400,000 and by corruption. Why has Hun Sen extravagantly spent so much national budget for his personal protection? He knows that he's not a fairly elected PM. The power he has had is the stolen power, which won't last long without such a heavy protection. This proves that he's a scary cat in the eye of the decent Khmers, but he's strong in the eye of the obsequious fools.
Is any country in the world free from corruption? NO! Perfection is very scarce. But Cambodia is the most corrupted. Why is Cambodia the most corrupted? As the standrad of moral/virtue goes down the scale of immoral acts go up, and the immoral acts start from the top (Hun Sen and all the governing body first) to the bottom. To reduce corruption, Hun Sen must start from himself. Will Hun Sen be brave enough to do that?
Leading by ignorance, greed, and uncontrollable pride, he won't. He thinks everything he has must permantly with him.
It's so sad that Khmer people escaped the tigers (Khmer Rouge) but encouter these crocodile (Hun Sen, his families and his cronies).
And who is to be blamed the most for causing all these repeated tragedies and miseries to happen to Khmer people? ex-King Sihanouk.

Of course, the Chinese Gov't is in the political and economic loops in Cambodia. Do you think the Chinese Government will allow the Viet. Government roming around China's backyard for free?
Cambodian Government is the stupid one here. Not the Viet. nor does the China.
Hun Sen, the dumb ass has been coughing up his sperm bubbles just for show....only in Cambodia. But out side of Cambodia, he is no better than a mice mostly comes out at night.

They are "Three Stooges" that's why.
Moe is Mao
Larry is Minh
Curly is Sihanouk
Very dangerous!
H S has been a subservient slave to VN, so he is happy to let VN exploit Khmers' economy by allowing Viettel- intelligence telocom of VN- to dominate Telecom Cambodia. It will suck away Khmers revenue and spy on what you talk, and then enslave Khmers like Champa. KhOpen,
Can you guys use appropriate language please. It looks so unprofessional and low life when you use such a language. You know, quality people use quality language and also when you use a proper language you are inviting others to join in the chart. So, brothers and sisters be smarter, as you know, at school, if teacher hears such a language, you will be expelled and reprimanded. So, anyway, why not build our own system by not going through Vietnam's company?....
