RFA fires another employee today

26 September 2009
DAP news
Translated from Khmer by Heng Soy

The leader of the strike against the despotism and nepotism at Radio Free Asia was fired this Saturday. This latest firing adds fuel to the protest [by those employees who were fired].

Phan Sophat (aka Ath Bonny) was the 5th (4th?) man fired by RFA. He indicated that he could not stand to look at his colleagues being fired one after another.

Phan Sophat’s firing was announced in a communiqué distributed on Saturday after he participated in a work boycott and he also participated in a tire burning-strike held in the evening of Friday 25 September.

I believe Kem Sos wants to kick out Khmer people out of station and put some Cham people back.

I wish all RFA employees walk out of their jobs and let Kem Sos do it by himself .. and then he will be fired for stirring up things .

Dear all,
I would like to ask all of khmer people who support free speech and support the RFA staff in Cambodia who were fired without notice ahead of time or just because of the internal problem of RFA.

Please go to this website to the board broadcasting governor:

http://www.bbg.gov/

Write the complain and tell them about the unjust for those people.

The whole problem is from Mr.Dan or Poev Ponlok who crewed everything.

Take action; do not just talk here on KI only. Send your message to BBG; so they know.

Wish all of the RFA staff luck. All of them should write a letter to bbg as well; not just the embassy in PP and also khmer audien abroad and in Cambodia.

Good luck!!!

Wowww , is Kem Sos out of control or what ? Kem Sos , part of your salary is coming from our tax and if we all complain to the USA about what you have done to those people , you might get fired too. Think about what you are doing old man because they got you there so they can get you out too.

Kem Sos is one of the Khmer Rouge's active advocates. He chose to put the Khmer Rouge's flag on the cover of his small bilingual English-Khmer dictionary published in America in 1977.

Who is kem sos?

Kem Sos is one of the Khmer Rouge's active advocates, living in America a long time ago. Maybe in the early 1970's.

All Cambodian staffs in PPenh should stage a walk-out stike. This in itself will get things sortet out fast. Take the risk and show your solidarity. Justice will always prevails when people stand together.

Now, it confirms the allegation that Kem Sos is working under Hun Sen's pressure. He will fire anyone that have been criticised the Cambodian Government and reported the accurate information about Cambodia.

Does anybody know exactly what the motive(s) of the firing of those RFA empolyees? It's difficult to support those employees without knowing what's going on.

Anonymous said...

8:16 AM has a point. I cannot believe that people here blindly support any thing that KI posts on this site. If KI posted and made comments on it, it is as good as justice served. Fact is, every story has truth behind. And the law has a basis in truth. It you not know the truth behind the firing DO NOT MAKE ASS-U-ME.

The RFA listeners must write support letter to:

Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG)
330 Independence Avenue, SW
Washington, DC 20237
Tel: (202) 203-4400
Fax: (202) 203-4585
E-mail: publicaffairs@bbg.gov
www.bbg.gov

This way, BBG will investigate who abused their powers to fire the RFA staffs. If you write to BBG, it will by pass Kem Sos and his boss who controls the whole RFA.

Please to fight for justice for RFA and make RFA broadcasting in Khmer to be a Radio station to support Freedom of Press in Information for our people in Cambodia.

Dear All, this problem is created by Pov Punlok. Mr. Ken Sos do by have been told by he boss from DC United State, that is not his idea at all.

Very soon Pov Punlok will be taking Mr. Kem Sos position soon. I don't think Pov Punlok is mind by all the staff from Cambodia suffer at all. He forget is Khmer in blood also. So please send all your complain to bbg.

the fire is dangerous and more serious than the la riots.

Phnom Penh has too many qualified candidates who need the job at RFA.

Do not assume,as employee, that you are irreplacable and invincible.

Anonymous said...

How come I don't hear the name of the President of RFA on this news ?

Anonymous said...

11:44 AM , every position is replacable including Prime Minister .

8:26 AM.
you talk like you are the smartest man here but you blindly accuse people here for making comments without knowing the truth , how do you know that people who make comments here don't really know what is going on ? Now , who is making an assumption here ? Is it you or others ?

Anonymous said...

Hey 8:26 AM . KI got this news from DAP and readers just read and comment on it according to how they feel . It seems to me like you are one of those who don't like KI because KI don't support CPP agenda .

Anonymous said...

I think Kem Sos is leaning tour CPP. One time KI had an article about Kem Sos and RFA don't want to talk something that upset Hun Sen and CPP.

So go to listen Radio France International (RFI). RFI broacasts all kind of language including Cambodia. RFI Khmer broadcast manager has a doctoral degree in political science.

Go to www.rfi.fr

4:53PM,

In fact, not really what I said.

Position and employee are two different subject matters. Position is not the employee.

Employee can be gone but the position still remains.

anyjob at anyposition can be repleced and will be replaced one day 9:27 PM .

In my company, afew people have been laidoff and a few positions have been terminated due to a financial problems .

10:11PM,

Understandably so it happened in the private sector but 4:53PM was saying,"every position is replacable including Prime Minister."

Have not seen democratic parliamen-tarian countries replaced Prime Minister position yet but only the position holder, so far.

That's my point to 4:53PM

Why don't we all send in a petition to remove Kem So. Because he is appeaseing the Dumb ass, Hun Sen to jeopodize Democracy [freedom of press, speech, and expression.]

Kem Sos's salary is from our tax money.

"every position is replacable including Prime Minister."

You right, but when and how? After a life time? Furthermore, is it replaceable..? When good staffs got fired base on the appeasement of someone else? In this case, ah Dumb Ass, Hun Sen.

I don't you are smart, Kem Sos. But you a smart ass indeed! Come back to the State..., I will shovel up a Philllips up your ass...once it is in. You can tell me how you feel about it. If you say, it is painful! You then have the pains and sufferings as those RFA staffs that you fired without the probable cause(s)

Shovel it! Kem Sos, ...mother fucker you!

I meant to say, I don't think you are smart.

It's up to the voters to decide when they have enough of the current government .

If it is found that Kem Sos is abusing power over the regulation, he needs to be fired.

Kem Sos is a man of monkey fucking.

Can someone shed light on Pov Punlok's family and education background? He seemed to be always behind all the troubes inflicted to all Khmer professionals at RFA.
He did not seems to have good command of Khmer language and spoke english with a strange accent. Did he have an obscure agenda to break up Khmer service in order to manipulate opinions in Cambodia?

Please support Khmer compatriots in this hardship!

Anonymous said...

let me tell you, he speaks better than you. Dumb ass.

RFA or VOA and all those non profit organizations may be all shut down due to the recent economy is sinking. The US government makes the country bankrupt. Many big companies moved to India and million Americans are laid off.

We knew these RFA and VOA are supported by the American tax payers, and I won't be surprised is they are going to be shut down.

Kem Sos or no Kem Sos can't do anything to save jobs even his own.

When the organizations have no money, sooner or later every one has to go. Many were forced to retire early.

I meant 'if they are.. not is they are' (correct' to 9;31am).

RFA is paying Thailand's THAICOM to make Khmer people listen to Khmer news.

Cambodian governments need to be more open to our society by allowing the freedom of speech for individuals. Governments need to learn to step into a world of having a sense of humour. Like Aust, people can make a joke with their political leaders without getting into trouble. The freedom of speech means is not always that serious and Political leaders no need to make a big deal out of this, like a resting workers or editors and imprisonment them, in doing so to shut them up and so on. This is wrong, good governments don't need to use and abuse their power. They should be more focused on what needs to be done to improve the quality of life for individual. e.g. create a welfare system like all for one and one for all and at this stage, Khmer government seems to be a bit too slow in putting new infrastructures; I also think governments need to lean to move away from personal conflicts. Be focused on improvement between one country to the next like Asian nation money calls “Siano” equal to European nation called “Euro”. We must think about what is more productive? E.g. everyone is equally important (one death is too many) at the sometimes we need to have a birth control rate (two children per family or one if necessarily.

3:51 AM,
Why did you make a stereotype of ethnic groups? Kem Sos is Khmer.

All these comments not one can convince me they really understand why those employees were fired.

Do you know if the employees are US governemnt employees (US citizen) and after they passed their probatioanry period, they cannot be fired easily until they will
first receive a verbal warning to improve their works; if not they
will receive a written warning to improve again. If they failed the two warnings, they will be fired.

Sometime, the employees won back their jobs after the settlements if the employees hired a good lawyers and their lawyers can prove
the they were injustly fired.

As for the US citizen who have not passed the probationary period and the non-US employees (contractors), they can be fired under no reasons at all, but the managements can make up one. The employees have no rights to challenge or to sue the governemnt.
On the way out they will be forced to sign "resign" instead of being terminated.

RFA's service is serving the US's purposes, and the employees must be careful what they choose to do or to say. Keep watching the US's policices not Cambodia or any party's policies. If the US's foriegn policies favors Cambodia's government for its own interest, don't start to tear it apart.

The employees are paid to do what they are told. Furtheremore, million employees in the US are being fired everyday from the sinking economy. It is not from Kem Sos. He too has to do what he is told by the US.

The US government draws lines that everything must benefit the US. If the US wanst to be friend with Hun Sen, the employees must not challenge. To be safe, shut up but do what you are asked to do.
Kem Sos too, he can get fired if he does not do what he is told.

Your wishes make others so happy. There are non_khmers who can speak Khmers fluently can do the jobs, and they are desparately looking for jobs to feed their families.
