TOKYO, Nov 7 (TNA) -- Reiterating that the Thai government’s decision to downgrade diplomatic relations with its neighbour Cambodia is not considered severe, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said here Saturday that convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra should first take Thailand’s interests into consideration rather than that of another country.
Mr Abhisit, who attended the two-day Japan-Mekong summit in Tokyo which ended earlier Saturday, said the problem was not caused by Thailand, and that what the Cambodian government did affected the Thai judicial system directly.
Mr Thaksin is also a Thai and he should have realised the impact, but he instead charged that the Thai government had caused the problem, said Mr Abhisit.
“In fact, Mr Thaksin should review his role of what he’s doing and think of the country’s interests as his priority and also to think on good relations with the country’s neighbours as well,” said Mr Abhisit.
His remarks were made after Mr Thaksin, whose government was ousted in a bloodless coup in September 2006, on Friday criticised the Thai government’s decision to downgrade diplomatic ties with Cambodia.
Both countries have recalled their ambassadors while Thai Foreign Affairs Minister Kasit Piromya has said he would ask the cabinet to consider revoking a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two countries on overlapping maritime boundaries in the Gulf of Thailand as the MoU would be affected by Mr Thaksin’s appointment as economic advisor to the Cambodian government.
The MoU regarding the Area of their Overlapping Maritime Claims to the Continental Shelf, dated 18 June 2001 was signed by then-foreign minister Surakiart Sathirathai and Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sok An during the Thaksin administration.
Thailand’s Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions sentenced Mr Thaksin to a two-year prison term in absentia after finding him guilty of a conflict of interest in Bangkok’s Ratchadaphisek land purchase case in 2003.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, however, argued that the charges against Mr Thaksin were politically motivated.
Mr Abhisit said that he did not understand why Mr Thaksin cared more about another country’s interests rather than his own country.
He added that earlier reports that Mr Thaksin had vested interest in that country could be true.

Human interest is individual aspiration, it can be inspired by personal, or national as collective interest or more universally it can also be broad as international one. Some cases, these interests can be a combined balance that ones can persue.
Accedemic likes Abhisit should have better idea of how people can choose what to do with their life.
No one should be refrained from individual choice, particularly when Thaksin currently does not live in Thailand and he can opt to take up another citizenship provided he is accepted by that country.
Many people now are living abroad and take up another citizenship.
and this is quite legal and universal.

Thaksin is right when he said the Abhisit government would say and do anything to discredit him. This Abhisit government would kill him too if they can.
Mr. Thaksin, I hope you will soon visit Cambodia to carry out your "economic" advisory role. and Good luck to you.
hey lord Abhisit Vejjajiva how can you ask thaksin to considering thai interest first while you and thai people chased him, a legitimately PM elected by people, from his people and want to jail him for sure? You led coup against him, chase him and want to jail him! How can he be a thai now?
Quick, you are so ill and immature in policy mr Abhisit Vejjajiva. I’m wondering how a man with high educated like you can act alike.

hi
anybody can tell me why some long term democratic country PM run the country by coup d,etat, not by people election,
When two peoples fight each other, both are at fault...Cambodia and Thailand probleme can be resoluted as follow:
1. Hun Sen remove Thaksin Economic Adviser position.
2. Abisit return the 4.6K surrounding Preah Vihear back to Cambodian people.
3. Speed-up border demarcation between the two country. Sea, Land and Air.
4. Work together to promote Tourism and Friendship.
This is the Win Win solution for both country as member of ASEAN.
Thailand must remove Abhisit from power!!!
Thaksin,
The Abhisit government is trying to discredit Thaksin and so his support from the Thai people. It is political move; it is not about justice. Abhisit government is trying to paint Thaksin as a bad guy. Their view of justice is so narrow and one way street. Thai people should smarten up of who they elect for their leader...
Yuon will be the head of ASEAN after Thai next year.
Sdach Korn Hun Sen wants Thaksin to topple Thai monarchy and become King Taksin himself. Hun Sen sacrifices Khmer interests in favour of his own interests and that of King Taksin. Sdach Korn Hun Xen is got caught in the middle of Thai internal politics now. Thaksin cannot win and become King Taksin, so Khmer people is embarass because Hun Sen support Thaksin. About 480,000 Khmer workers in Thailand and their families at home are now got cold feet. Around a million Khmer people along the borders are fear of losing their jobs and bussinesses. If war break out, people will be forced to be soldiers and/or give financial support for soldiers. Hun Sen doesn't care about the suffering of Khmer people; he only listens to his boss VN. Yuon benifits from this tension:1. Sells weapon to Cambodia; 2. Khmers have no choice but to buy Yuon's products and go to VN to use their services; 3. Cambodia can't explore oil, so that VN and Thai can continue to get more oil from the sea. Hun Sen's games are only serving the Yuon's interests. Bravo Hun Sen!!! Poor people vote for him again and again and again!!! Long live Cambodia!!!
yellow shirts and red shirts are fighting to be in power. As a leader of a country, Hun Xen should be smart to stay nuatral and get as much benifits as possible for Cambodia. Yuon is very smart to use Hun Sen to lit the Thai's house that is already on fire, so that Thai people hate Cambodia and consider Cambodia their enemy. Yuon is staying on top of the mountain to see Thais and Cambodians fighting. Both countries are suffering economically, mentally and probably militarily. Yuon and Yuon alone is profiting economically and politically. Bravo Hun Sen!!! Long live Hun Sen and his children to lead Cambodia forever!!! Long live Hun Sen's blind subordinates!!! Long live Cambodia!!!
9:05PM, the problem is Thailand never keep their promised. There are over 200 countries in the world, does anyone of them drawn their own map? The land of fake smile is the only one.
I love the “Kingdom of wonder” commercial.

9:05 ARE YOU STUPID ARE WHAT ...?
THE LAND SURROUNDIND PREAH VIHEAR IS KHMER LAND YOU IDIOT....WHY DO THEY HAVE TO GIVE IT BACK WHEN ITS OURS......YOUR COMMENT IS STUPID...YOUR BASICALLY SAYINGS ITS THERES ...DUMMY
The solutions to the khmer people are very simple.
1- yuon have to return kampuchea krom and koh trol to khmer.
2- Siem have to return some stolen provinces to khmer,
Do otherwise ,khmer will be restless forever.
To Prevent Neighbors from encroaching, Cambodia must upgrade her military power, not just economy alone...Neighbors still seeing cambodia as a small weaks country, do not depend on the world 100% for help, we must upgrade ourself too...
I agree! Strong defense is the key, cambodia suffering for so long because of weakness army and poor defending herself, Thailand has lost to Myanmar, but they have advantaged on us since day one, it's time to lift ourself up from the hole...
Thailand did not lost to Myanmar? they are no match to Myanmar fool! Thailand turns around attacking Khmer instead, because they seeing cambodia is weak....
The Thais are a bunch of loonies ultra-nationalists...What is the matter with them??? It's true that Cambodia do not have economic experts, that's why Samdech Hun Sen imports foreign know-how like Lee Myung Bak and now Thaksin. The Thais are ingrateful bastards who owe so much to Cambodia for the past 800 years. They are imperialists who can not exert control beyond their borders...Instead of fostering fraternal friendship between our two peoples (Khmer-Thai) which share so much in common, they choose the wrong path to self-destruction and humiliation. In the eyes of the world, they are indeed a crazy disturbed people...
