The Nation

Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rainsy said on Friday that he would never serve a foreign government, which has problems with his own country.

"It would never cross my mind to serve a foreign government that is at odds with my own country. All my time and resources are, and will be, exclusively devoted to serving and defending my sacred motherland Cambodia," Sam Rainsy said in a statement issued on Friday.

Rainsy's name cropped up during the current conflict between the Thai and Cambodian governments following Cambodia's appointment of convicted ex-Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra as economic adviser to Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen and his government.

In October, Hun Sen declared that he would appoint fugitive ex-Thai prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra as his economic adviser and criticised the Thai media of inviting Sam Rainsy to Thailand and interviewing him.

Hun Sen said he did not see his plan to appoint Thaksin as interfering in Thai politics, given the fact that Sam Rainsy was invited to appear in a television interview and criticise his own government.

On Thursday, when the Thai government recalled its ambassador in protest at Cambodia's appointment of Thaksin as the economic adviser, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban asked what the Hun Sen government would say if Sam Rainsy were appointed as the Thai government's economic adviser.

"I am surprised to see my name associated with that of Mr Thaksin Shinawatra of Thailand on his official appointment as an adviser to Cambodia's government led by Mr Hun Sen," Sam Rainsy said in the statement.

please dont get yourself involved in this game, let them bark bark,... at each other. Actually, there should be a warning to the siam deputy PM of legal action for associating you without your consent with this political game - it's all about gaining/ staying in power.

Sam Rainsy is a coward and very tricky politician. He has signed alliance with Democrat Party of Thai current PM and used Thai media to attack to Cambodian government but Sam Rainsy said he would never serve a foreign government.

It's so obvious that Sam Rainsy has to deny if he were appointed as Thai government's economic advisor, is the same way that he's never dared to criticize King Sihanouk.

siem dog above^, where did you pull this shit from? It is obvious that the siems are very frustrated at their own game. They have started it from the beginning and now they are lost in their own devise. All Khmers need to keep up and take care ourselves.

Why Thailand wants Sam Rainsy as economic adviser for? SRP is always a loser party in Cambodia, but Thailand just uses SRP to upset Hun Sen.

Sam Rainsy means nothing to Thailand but SRP needs Thailand for shelter to its supporters whenever Cambodian government wants to arrest them, and also needs financial support for its survival in Cambodia's politics.

It's really Honours for Sam Rainsy were appointed as Thai's economic adviser but he can't say "Yes" for now because it would be a disaster for his political career in Cambodia. However, SRP is always been a good friend and close ally with Thai Democrat Party.

There you go. You say it yourself in your first paragraph. Thailand has been meddling with Cambodia for so long. Now you got to taste your own game. How do you like it? Remember it is your game and you, Thailand, started all these. You reap what you sow.

Shameful THai Deputy Prime Minister! Great H.E. Sam Rainsy! who refused this type of proposal.

All of you are strategically blind. What Hun Sen does is to turn your attention to Khmer-Thai conflict. This is not the real problem. This real problem is that the economy is plummeting. Hun Sen Govt is imposing tax on his subjects (SIC!) who are earning so hard. Second, Hun Sen cuts salary from public workers. Third, illegal demarcation between Viet & Khmer Gov't.

Dear Thai's student @3:10pm.
It was the Thai who started to mention Sam Rainsy as your govt adviser first? It is a shame you mentioned like that. That's why people say the Thais are not honest.

The threat that Thailand is posing to Cambodia is minimal compared to the clear and present imposed by Vietnam. Those who pretend to be nationalists on the issue of Preah Vihear are missing all the marks when it comes to Cambodia's survival. When lands are being concessioned out in large volume, Viet migrants flooded our lakes and cities and provinces they turn blind, at least one side just like Ah Kwak Hun Sen.

Thai student,

Why thailand still uses khmer numeric writing on thai currency?

I know you not gonna response to this question. But I will ask anyway.

Sam rainsy is more of a man than Hun Sen. The prime minister only talks big just like his Thai counterpart. Thailand is a country of chicken shit and not a main threat. The Shitnamese do things quietly and secretly. By the time they move in, it's already to late, and Sam rainsy knows this. Just like it happen in the past, it will happen again. Shitnamese rubber plants are popping up everywhere. Soon every villages and provinces be renamed by the Shitnamese overseer. Throw your khmer language books out and get ready to learn Shitnamese.

that's a strong statement by mr. sam rainsy and right so. i hope he is telling the truth to khmer people because if he work with siem, then khmer people will find out sooner or later, really! it would have a repercussion on his future candidacy in an election in cambodia, really!

Poor Sammy can't do anything fruitful to his country but barking at Hun Sen. And the people of Cambodia, they are even funnier than the clowns - can't take control over their fate but putting it all to the only man- Hun Sen. What a stupid country and people you are!
