For New Year, Political Holiday Messages

Hun Xen - Sam Rainsy - Kem Sokha

As Cambodians began the first of three days of New Year celebrations, the country’s political leaders took the occasion to spread well-wishes, and messages, of their own.

Phnom Penh Wednesday, 14 April 2010

As Cambodians began the first of three days of New Year celebrations, the country’s political leaders took the occasion to spread well-wishes, and messages, of their own.

“May the goddess named Mundia Devy of the New Year protect all Cambodian people, making them goodhearted and living with honor and mutual understanding,” Chea Sim, the president of the Cambodian People’s Party and the Senate, wrote in a holiday missive.

In a public message, Prime Minister Hun Sen promised his government would “make further efforts to strengthen peace and stability and push forward social and economical development.”

The government had done well in preserving peace and territorial integrity over the past year, Hun Sen said, alluding to the ongoing military standoff at the border near Preah Vihear temple and the weathering of the global economic crisis.

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy, meanwhile, said in his own New Year message that “the agricultural system in Cambodia is weak,” a reference to predictions by astrologers that Cambodia could face hot weather and damage from insects in the Year of the Tiger.

Kem Sokha, president of the opposition-aligned Human Rights Party, said in the past year Cambodia had faced political problems, attacks on parliamentarians, drug use and human trafficking.

In the upcoming year, he said, his party will work “to ensure democracy, application of the rule of law and respect for human rights.”

One have to acknowledge that Cambodian govt. has done a good job in maintain political stability withing the country. This is indeed one of major element to promote economic growth. Hun Sen should get credit for is well done job (this does not mean to endorse him for impunity and heavy hands on his opposition parties). HS has enough power to cooperate with other parties and other parties should respect him in the sense that he able to lead the country, manage to attrach FDI (please make sure the tax system in secture so that the wealth will be triggle down to the rest of Cambodia. But also make sure to sustain national resources for next generation (in order for Khmer prosper -- leave good foot print for our children to be proud off). On this note...May th tiger year give Khmer leader strenght, maintain peace and promote economics development...have tax system that the wealth be more even, the rich should share more burden in promote the country infrostructure - because the wealth you get is also because Hun Sen ability to maintain peace in the country....Help Hun Sen...Help Cambodian country...Peace to all..

Happy Khmer new year to all Khmer around the world...

Hay 9:48 AM..

You speak with a lot of your soul - you only choose to see the glass half empty - can you see the glass half full as well. If you can see so much what going on in Cambodia - why you are using a lot of "F" .. action speak lounder than words...since when is the last time you are in Cambodia? I know that those problems you have mention as well, but you have to acknowledge the road the infrostructure that allow all khmer to travel all over the country with peace. Did you live in KR regime? Do you remember that you could event travel from one village to anothers village?

My Dear 9:48 am... don't speak with your anger...this only make your life on earth shorter...be respect to your mother that give birth to you...and do something good for your motherland...In addition... please stop using "F" word in your blogg...because it is only show that you are the man without calm mind..

Nameste on this Khmer New Year to You

10:52 am I agree with you 70% , but what you think about put pressure on Khmers never montions a word Vietnameses out of control all over the place. About the land and forest.

Ok 11:20 AM

Thanks for not using "F" words because you seem to be intelligen as well...but anger never get us anywhere! What I believe is that in order for Cambodian democracy to continue to servive (just look at Thai rights now...those corrupt offical pay back big time ... but the rest of the Thai people are hurting and keep tourist away...this directly let to lost job...etc). If HS be able to use Cambodian keep for his cland and be able to get FDI into the country...why not most of us who are capable of doing business right now go to Cambodia and do the same?...this is because due to the lack of strong institution, the rule of law and respect for Humen rights...thus, if Khmer people and the opposition parties in the govt. rights now help push govt. to put those laws in place ...than the next move is enforce the law...event the CPP will have to respect the law...because now technology will not allow govt. cland to abuse the country without licking to the Intl. community new...just like Thai right now...Hay 11:20 Am, I am on the same side as you...but we have to find peaceful solution...and demand Cambodia to have strong institution and respect human rights...why because we are all still Khmer -- no matter where we live..thus, we have the right to demand the leader of our motherland to respect the people...

OK 10:20 am... happy Khmer New Year..

Why Hun Sen always acts the contrary of what he says ?
You jail opponent, you exclude choice from Cambodians, you grab lands, you give Khmer lands to Yuons and punish Khmer victims,
and you want peace and stability ?

yes, if we want to see a difference in cambodia, we all must demand it in a right way without so much violence, swearing, etc... there's always a critic somewhere who sees a glass half empty. that's why in leadership, we do not want that kind of individual because that type of individual cannot take us anywhere; plus, people would not vote for them because they are full of bigotry, anger, violence, etc, so, people don't take them seriously that way. so if you want others to influence you or respect you, you must show that you deserve one as well. unruly people just don't fit in the picture anymore in a crowd of educated people, really! think about it, don't use too much anger because it gets you nowhere in life, not just in cambodia, but anywhere on the planet as well, really! be civilized and educated and respect rules and regulations, law, etc... by all mean be profession when dealing with elected officials, etc... it's all common sense too, you know! as far so those who don't want viet/youn business, etc, maybe, people ought to form a group to discuss relationship with neighboring countries for a change for it goes nowhere with hatred, bigotry, race, bias, discrimination, etc, etc... stop being so contemptuous at those of us who are trying to make things work and improve the situation, etc... if you have nothing nice to say, then better not to say anything at all. talk to someone about your discontentment, talk to a psychotherapist or psychiatrist, or someone in related field like that, ok! they can direct you to the right source for help, you might need it.

sometime, someone can get all the education in the world, but if they don't go out and make a real difference by showing they work hard, by influencing and helping people, and so forth, then all that education in the world does no good at all, you know! in short, they have to be proactive in the daily functioning of the country that is what counts more in being effective and good citizen. they say a college diploma will get you in the door, however, that's not the only thing and doesn't just stop there either, it's just the beginning because to get further, you need to work hard, smart, be influential, be effective, show others people are good and lawful citizen, etc... imagine, if you can't even get along with others you work with, how can people count on you to take an important position like leading the country, etc, you have to show people that you can do by taking the middle path in life, especially when you are the leader. we all depend on each other to get the work done; everybody is good at something but not everything, though; we have to know our limit too.

remember this, if we really love our country, we have to be willing to make it work by all means. don't destroy it, and then say you love it, that's is ironic and people can see that, really!

In economic - what we understand is nothing is have a price (nothing is costless). Thus, the question we can ask ourselves...how much are we will to pay to maitain peace, stability, economic prosperity and creat democratic country? The current cost is that keep HS in the power, because he seem to be only so far that be able to maintain peace (of course this is not that he a clean leader and the law a bit leader - there and imputnity and violate human, etc), but for the current political stability in order to nurture FDI and creat job for people...this Cambodia have for pay for the HS regime. At some point...when Khmer education reach the critical mass like Thailand...I am very sure that people would not want this regime for ever. The best to promote democracy in the country is education, education, education, jobs, jobs, and jobs... and the current regime seem to work hard on these areas..

What all of you think?..

Anonymous said...

yes, education, jobs, timing and not isolation is all keys to a better cambodia. also, don't forget to study people's skill like social network, social interaction, etc, and having patience are keys as well. many many things can be put together to get the result or solution, really! multi-tasking is also important, although, nobody can know everything as we all so dependent on one another for the same goal or purpose, you know!

hay1:59am

I think you have a good point and the right ideas! cooperation, social networking, in addition building trust among our Khmer citizen is and additional way to combine the strenght to fight the corrupt system...the red shirt in Thia is a good example when more people are educate...good ideas is easy to spread and they would trust the leader that have work for them and protect their country. As you can see...the Thai red third are even willing to give their blood (as symbol) to symbolize that they are willing to give their life for to fight the corrupt govt...

happy Khmer new Year
