The current ruling party in Cambodia uses the court system as a tool to prevent opposition or minorities from having a legitimate right to protect the people’s interest against corruption."
Exiled opposition leader Sam Rainsy met with a senior US State Department official in Washington on Wednesday, claiming Cambodian courts were working to marginalize his party.

“The current ruling party in Cambodia uses the court system as a tool to prevent opposition or minorities from having a legitimate right to protect the people’s interest against corruption,” Sam Rainsy said, following a meeting with Scot Marciel, the Assistant Secretary of State in charge of Asean affairs.

Sam Rainsy is currently on a visit to the US to build political support for his party, which holds 26 seats in the National Assembly, compared to 90 held by the Cambodian People’s Party.

Sam Rainsy is facing criminal charges for publishing a map on his party’s website to support claims that a border arrangement between Vietnam and Cambodia has eroded national land, and he is facing a jail sentence on charges related to uprooting border markers in Svay Rieng province.

Sam Rainsy told VOA Khmer that he had raised issues of forced evictions, restricted freedom of assembly, the prosecution of journalists and a biased judiciary with Marciel.

“So there should not be one group that tries to eliminate another group, like in Cambodia,” Sam Rainsy said. “In the US, democracy is lively because they know how to respect each other, especially the majority that respects the minority.”

Cambodian government officials said Wednesday they were not concerned with Sam Rainsy’s visit to the US.

Sam Rainsy is scheduled to meet with other officials from Congress and rights groups before giving a speech to a group of Cambodian-Americans in Virginia.

He should have brought Mu Sochua with him so that he could meet with Hillary Clinton instead of the low grade official.

Sam Rainsy, please tell the state deparment about the border issue with Viet Nam and Thailand !!!

All the readers want to know what position the US take on the issue.

Do you think the US will offer help on the issue ?????

I don't think they would give any help at all.

But, they might want him to talk more trash about Cambodian goverment. It is his favorite subject.

He cans also ask more advice on how to campaing for his party, if he is smart enough to realize that he needed help.

U.S doesn't care what's happening in Cambodia, cuz Cambodia doesn't have anything to offer. Therefore, U.S could careless. Besides, this is how Cambodian runs its country. If you don't like how the government rules your country, try to change it. If it doesn't work, run like hell! In the end, if you can't beat them join them.

If RGC continues to work on building trash, the opposition is helping cambodia from being rotten.
Please learn to accept that,in order to move forward.

Please try to do the right thing by people and cambodia.

Selling some part of cambodia,to pay to deep respect to Vietnam by khmer leaders is NOT the right thing to do,neither give some land to vietnam and keep some to the clan,is the right thing to do.

Yes this is the Khmer territory but unfortunately this country is controlled by the YOUNS. They are all YOUN.

If YOUN who are serving khmer interests then they are regarded as KHMER.

If KHMER who are serving YOUN interests then they are regarded as YOUN.

Current leaders of Cambodia they control Cambodia and her people as their own assets. Since they are the 7-Jan-79 liberationist then they force people to owe the gratitude to 7-Jan means that the people must to owe those leaders who regarded themself as the liberationist of 7-Jan.

Since they are the boss of 7-Jan people have to bear the poverty, have to see those of 7-Jan boss corruption and natural resource stealling.

YOU MUST TO REMEMBER 7-JAN-79 UNTILL YOUN CONTROL TOTALLY CAMBODIA. THIS IS THE FACT

I'm wondering where are all old Khmer people who came to the USA since 1975? They seem to keep low profile and don't care to talk about Khmer issue.

Most of Khmer are scare to come and meet Mr. Sam Rainsy when he is in the US.

Last night I observed only about 70 people came to Harvest Moon restaurant in Virginia to listen his speech and those people are the same face people I saw every meeting.

Khmer are not united; Youn are united.

Khmer people don't see the right or wrong.

Some support Hun Sen because either they have relative working for Hun Sen or they see Hun Sen is doing a good job.

Some say bad about Sam Rainsy that he is no hope and don't listen to anyone. but those people are jealous people and want to destroy Khmer as Hun Sen is doing now.

Ah Khmer people in DC only go to Khmer embassy to have a party and support Hun Sen. When they go to Hun Sen party at the embassy, they are not afraid of Sam Rainsy and vise versa.
