If Sihanouk did not abdicate and remain on the throne ,and let his Khmer people decided their fate democratically,he must be remembered as the great Khmer king of all time .And royal families will be respected until today .Now it's too late.He's forever remembered as a great traitor who at one time cooperated fully with the communist ,especially with the Khmer rouge that ultimately led to the lost of almost 3 millions Khmer lives.

I argree with your argument 100%. As I was young I have always respected him like God. But after I got the high education with "PhD", I can say "Sihanouk is the RED KING for Khmers". not real King. Why? He is the only king in the Globe has worked hand in hand with communism where as the other kings against communism, for instance: Thailand, Japan, UK, Spain, .. that is why is no well-know in the west world. But he is the well-know in communist countries like East German, China, Viet,... If you all believe me.
The events which was described by Uon Sim is genuine corrected and understandable of transparencing the society from a regime to regime. xihanouk killed many hero for real Cambodia (Kampuchea) such as Preab In, Meak thura, Sam Sary, Sen Ngoc Thanh, Chao Bory etc.. by accusing them as the traitors, but in fact he is the ones. Lon Nol tried his best to rescue Cambodia but failed. Pol Pot was a genocide under yuon and Chen demanding. hun xen, chea xim, heng xamrin and their subordinates including kings and princes are running under the destination of yuon and chen. xihanouk worries of losing royal identification from Cambodia as Nepal, hun, chea and heng worry of losing their puppet power, so they all try their best to keep their name and face even selling/concession/offerring the land which is belong to Khmer poor people to ah yuon kantob/ah yuon srakey yoeur.
All heads of ah bloody guys will be taken into account at the International court and will be hung or shot onto their head by bullet of poor Khmer people or lightening striked by the evil spirit soon.

If Sihanouk stood on the undependent state like he said before 1970 because of Vietnam war, then Cambodian economy will be Singapore or South Kera today and 2 millions of Khmer will never die.
