A grandson of the late Cambodian film maker, Vann Chan, screened on Sunday a trailer for a documentary about Cambodian cinema in the 1960s and 70s at the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institute, in Washington DC.

Davy Chou, maker of the new film "Golden Slumbers,'' showed film clips and told the audience about the history of Cambodia's golden age of cinema and of the success of his grandfather's work at Vann Chan Film Production. He spoke about an array of Cambodian screen stars and filmmakers. Davy Chou, whose parents are Cambodian and who grew up in France, hopes to complete the documentary before the end of the year.

Chou says he was shocked when he realized how his grandfather's legacy is being forgotten. Nearly all of the film stars from that era were killed by the Khmer Rouge. Many cinemas become karaoke parlors, hotels or were taken over by squatters. And a lady occupying his grandparent's home said to him and his mother "Oh I saw those films but we threw them away!"

Chinese people has come to settle in Cambodia since pre-Angkor error. Cambodia is made up of many ethnics and some ethnic play very important roles, not only khmer. That is why this country is called Cambodia, not Khmer for example Kuy ethnic is very good keeping elephants for king army at that time. The important, they love the country and do something for the country. Do not be racist.

1:40PM, How did you figure Chinese have been in Cambodia since pre-Angkor era if China was once conquered by Genghis Khan of the Mongol Empire 1206-1227? So if China was taken over by the Mongols during that time, what would Chinese be doing in Cambodia during the Khmer Empire?? King Jayavaraman reigned during the years 1181-1215, and Genghis Khan reigned during the years 1206-1227, how is it possible for the Chinese to migrate to Cambodia unless a later King allowed the Chinese to seek refuge in the Khmer Empire to escape the Mongols. The Chinese is just a minority in every country it migrates to except it's own dumb ass!!!!!!!!! Why do you think there is Chinese in Phillipines, Malaysia, Nepal, Myanmar, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam????? Everywhere your people migrate to, you tend think your ancestors been there since the countries ancient days!!!!!!! Thank your late Chinese dynasty diplomats!!!!!!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genghis_Khan Get your history right jackass!!

If you have seen our son would not believe that he is our son. I don't know why he looks completely different from us. He doesn't like anyone says he looks like chinese but it is alright to say he looks like South Korean or Japanese.
When he went to Cambodia the guards around Angkor Vat always stopped him until he told them somethings in Khmer as some places only Khmer people can go in free of charge.

1:40 PM,

You are absolutely right with your statements.

Cambodian is in the heart and mind no matter what a person's actual look is.
