Prime Minister Hun Sen and opposition leader Sam Rainsy have traded insults, accusing and counter-accusing each other of begging for forgiveness.
The latest exchanges of the war of words between the two leaders followed Mr. Sam Rainsy's lodgement of latest criminal lawsuit against Prime Minister Hun sen in the U.S court.
In 2005, Mr. Sam Rainsy had lodged a criminal lawsuit against Mr. Hun Sen in the same U.S Court, accusing him of masterminding the 1997 grenade attacks which killed 19 and wounded 190 peaceful protesters. There are claims that Prime Minister Hun Sen had begged Mr. Sam Rainsy to withdraw that lawsuit in exchange for allowing Mr. Rainsy to return to Cambodia safely.
However, speaking during a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, Mr. Hun Sen said it was Mr. Sam Rainsy who had written a letter to beg him for a royal pardon which he had agreed. "Who begged whom? In 2005, (Rainsy) wrote a letter of apology clearly, asking me to request for a royal pardon from the king. He has acknowledged that he had falsely accused me for a lot of things, like launching the grenade attacks in front of the National Assembly aimed at assassinating up to 6 prominent people such as His Excellency Sam Rainsy himself, Prince (Norodom) Sirivudh and even used the (derogatory) term 'ah'....etc. He had used such word as well. Sorry, if a dog bites my leg, I will not bite his leg back but I will use my leg to kick him. Please wait and see, boy!", declared Hun Sen.
However, Mr. Sam Rainsy claimed the opposite had happened. During a video conference from his exile in France on 24th September, Mr. Rainsy said the New York Court had served Mr. Hun Sen with the summons at his hotel when he visited New York in 2005. Mr. Rainsy claimed that Mr. Hun sen was so scared of the summons that he asked him to withdraw his lawsuit in exchange for allowing him to return to Cambodia safely. "In 2005, the (U.S) court had served Mr. Hun Sen with the summons and he was so scared! He was staying in his hotel and the court officials appeared at his hotel to hand him the summons to appear before the court. He was scared, he was very shocked. And when he had returned front New York, he begged me, Sam Rainsy, to withdraw my lawsuit in the U.S and he will agree to withdraw his lawsuit against me in Cambodia" said Mr. Rainsy.
Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for the Sam Rainsy Party, said the case against the perpetrators of the grenade attacks in 1997 cannot be closed, even if Mr. Sam Rainsy had once withdrawn his criminal lawsuit. "Criminal offences have no statute of limitation. Criminal offences cannot be traded like exchanging the apologies between people. The importance is to find justice for the victims. We want the perpetrators brought to justice", he said.
On 30th March 1997, four grenades were thrown into a crowd of peaceful demonstrators, killing 19 and wounded 190 people, including Mr. Sam Rainsy and Mr. Ron Abney,a U.S citizen. The U.S FBI launched a criminal investigation and found that Prime Minister Hun Sen's Bodyguard Unit posted nearby was behind the attacks.

Probably shat in his pants when summoned to court from his hotel room in new york. That is why today he wants to control the judiciary in cambodia.
I can't wait to see Hun Sen's reation after he has been summoned by the Court . In Cambodia , the court is under his control but this one of outside of Cambodia and it's out of his control.
It is laughable that criminal convicted Sam Rainsy is shameless lie Khmer people on and on again. His lawyer has SUBMITTED his complaint to the U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL of the U.S DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE which alleged that PM Hun Sen and other Cambodian officers have FALSE AND FRAUDULENT STATEMENTS, AND MISREPRESENTATIONS AND THREATS made to FBI's officers during the course of an official criminal investigation (Sic). If it is the case, why U.S. government has not take legal action against PM Hun Sen and Cambodian government?
Actually, in criminal case, each person can write the complain against other people or government as much as he/she wants, but it is up to the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP) to decide whether that complaint has merit (significant evidence) or not before, DPP lodges a formal complaint to the Court.
As for this nonsense case, Sam Rainsy's lawyer just sent his complaint to The U.S. Attorney General but we don't know what will U.S Prosecutor decide about it? However, he and SRP has announced that he sued PM Hun Sen to the U.S Court and challenge PM Hun Sen to answer the charge (sic). Moreover, this case is not a new case, PM Hun Sen or Cambodian government just shows the letter that Sam Rainsy's apologise about this case during 2005 to the U.S Attorney General or the Department of Justice, Sam Rainsy's complaint this time will be dead as his political career in Cambodia.

If the accusations are baseless then the court will throw out the case ( which I doubt).
Whereas the accusations and the sentencing of SR by the cambodian court is a sham and politically biased.
Some people just don't want to see the truth or are they just hiding the truth behind lies.
Lets change Cambodia to be brighter, smarter. Change the leader from inside out. Do it via the power of people.
I don't know why people are still talking about Sam Rainsy? He is a yesterday man. His political career in Cambodia is dead in the water. If he wants to win the election and been as Cambodian Prime Minister, please wait for next life and born as a brave man. It is so unfortunately for Sam Rainsy that this life, he was borned as a coward man, always realised on run like a rat. A strong leader stays inside the country and fight no matter what.

It is really sad that Cambodia has a coward opposition leader likes Sam Rainsy. Look at in Burma, Mrs. Aung San Suu Yi has never afraid going to jail. No matter what Burmese Junta government does to her but she is staying inside Burma and keeps fight for freedom to Burma.

Confusing about the resident & citizenship of Mr. Sam Raingsy, where he is now living and working.
In my mind, he is a member of the Cambodian parliament and still have permanent residence in Cambodia. Therefore the only way, he was able to sue Mr. Hun Sen was in Cambodia and not somewhere else.
Apply a lawsuit against Mr. Hun Sen in the US or Europe just a fantasy and was not working, because Mr. Sam Raingsy did not have the permanent residence in both places.
Or he has a French and a US citizenship ?
6:08 PM, the lawsuit was jointly filed by Mr. Ron Abney, Ly Neary, Lay Chan Thou, and Nguon Huon Heun who are U.S citizens. Hun Sen must be careful and not to be so boastful. He might be arrested if he is convicted by the U.S court because the 1997 grenade attacks injured the U.S citizens. Also the killing of 19 people and wounding 190 others could be considered a crime against humanity. If the U.S or other governments file an arrest warrant with Interpol, Mr. Hun Sen could be arrested. Look at Saddam Hussein, Manuel Noriega of Nicaragua, Milosevic of Serbia and Karadzic of Bosnia. Some have died sadly, while others are still in international jails.

It's not important whether hun xen or rainsy withdrew their accusations; what's important is the truth. did mr. hun xen order the 1997 attack? if he did then he's a criminal; end of story.
