Southeast Asia is China's natural backyard. China has extensive land borders with the region, and depends upon Southeast Asia's sea corridors for economic power and security interests. China's energy supplies depend on shipments of oil through the Strait of Malacca, while its naval ambitions rely on the ability to operate in the South China Sea.
China has been accused of economic imperialism by its Southeast Asian neighbours. Over the last year, an increasingly self-confident China has become more assertive over its 'rights and interests', getting into a series of spats with its neighbours, such as the recent standoff with Vietnam over the two countries' unresolved maritime border in the South China Sea. There's an ongoing debate among China-watchers over whether the South China Sea has been declared a 'core interest', a phrase that implies a willingness to go to war.
As China's 'peaceful intentions' have come to seem open to doubt, Southeast Asian nations have become eager to hedge their bets, giving other powers like the US and India a chance to bolster their presence in the region.
At the intersection of three major powers, Southeast Asia promises to be one of the most strategically important regions of the 21st century. Whether it will be, as Robert Kaplan recently argued in Foreign Policy, 'the future of conflict' depends to a large extent on the stance that China takes.

Vietcong should not have the legitimacy in the international relations in dealing and claiming any land/sea territories as long as, the vietcong itself is the aggressor toward its neighbors.

Terrorizing and occupying countries with independent sovereignty is illegal and violating the international laws.
How come america and other international community don't mention about vietnam being an aggressor with their neighbors? I guss america is trying to rally asia support to curb the conger military expansion. Maybe the US is concern that their military might around the world is threaten by china. what does america see cambodia and lao? What are cambodia and lao in america s eyes? China military expansion not "conger"
This is very interesting view. China is eyeing on Cambodia seaport and will upgrade the best they can to have that seaport equipped with modern radar and able to dock all Chinese big or giant ship in the future. Because Strait of Malacca is very special strait for China to keep their eyes on, so they need Cambodia seaport.
Yes, they want to use Cambodia seaport to observe the movement in the Strait of Malacca.
Just remember this, after the fall of the Soviet Union, all of the country who has East/West or North/South, were united Except Korea.

American lost the VietNam because of the Tet Offensive attack by the vietCong. Both VietNams were working together to fight the war.
I believe (this a personal belief others have same thinking) that this time around the Vietcong is siding with the Chinese to win over American again.
I do love America; I have alot to thank America for. BUT I don't want America to ignore Cambodia to suffer again.

I hope that China starts the war with Viet Nam soon because we need to generate more work in America.
