PHNOM PENH, Cambodia (AP) — A prison official says a Russian businessman convicted of sexually abusing more than a dozen girls in Cambodia has walked free after being granted a royal pardon.
Preah Sihanouk Prison director Pich Veasna says 45-year-old Alexander Trofimov was one of 360 prisoners granted amnesty by Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni. Trofimov had been convicted of buying sex from 17 girls between the ages of six and 13.
Before his arrest in October 2007 Trofimov was chairman of a Russian-led investment group developing a Cambodian tourist island.
Trofimov was originally sentenced to 17 years in jail but his term was slashed to seven years in August 2010.
Trofimov was one the higher profile cases in recent years in Cambodia's efforts to crackdown on pedophiles.

Look beyond the problem. Why this problem occurs?
The puppet government's defiance of the 1991 Paris Peace Accord and its adoption of the bilateral treaties with Vietnam encouraged Thailand to do something that is conformed to those bilateral treaties, using a new drawing map.

Norodom Sihamoni is a King of Cambodia representing a monarchical institution with years of history in our modern-time Cambodia, the institution whose existence is called into question many times as the King appears to be an automatic apparatus without its own funtioning brain and will to think for Himself and interests of His people and the country whom He continues to profess to love and serve.
Granting a Royal Pardon to such a criminal that took advantage of the very small, poor, weak and vulnerable girls of Cambodia indicates clearly how far the King is willing to go to maintain His palace in a land whose justice can be bought with money and power.
There are many political prisoners in Cambodian jails whose crimes are nothing more than their speech and actions to defend democracy, social justice, independent courts and desire to protect Cambodia's territorial integrity and independence and yet they remain in jails unjustly and suffer because they dare to do a job that a King would not even dare to think about for ONE minute.
This kind of a Royal Pardon is a nasty and disgraceful slap in the face of the greatest King Jayavarman VII who built the great Kindom of Cambodia between 1181 and 1218. King Jayavarman would move furiously and unsettledly in his grave with such an ignominious decision.
Like it or not, His Majesty, the King of Cambodia has become a willing lending hand to the government of PM Hun Sen to fulfill its desire of accomplishing its hidden agenda with this Russian businessman and at the same time obviously weakening His own monarchical institution itself. One arrow from PM Hun Sen'bow does kill 2 birds at the same time.
His Majesty does indeed help, by His lack of courage and wisdom, to weaken and eventually kill His own reign, role and relevance in modern-day Cambodia by refusing to be on the side of the weak, young and poor Cambodian girls. It certainly sends a strongly wrong message to everyone.
The existence of the Royal Institution in a poor country of Cambodia where so much money has been used to maintain it should be called into question when it cannot even defend the obviously and easily defensible case by refusing to let this Russian criminal walk free.
What else can one say, but "Shame, shame and shame!"
You can certainly bet that, if allowed to vote freely, to abolish such a useless institution, my vote will and always shall be a "YES"!
Why would one want to bother to keep it, the Royal Institution has steadfastly died from within itself anyway.

That is what I heard from Vietnamese and Thais that Cambodia does not need Monarchy, Hun Sen, or any Khmer, Cambodia needs to be emptied and let Thais and Vietnamese take care the rest.
