Police in the southern province of Tay Ninh said Friday that they had arrested a man for allegedly smuggling illicit drugs into Vietnam from Cambodia.

According to police, Truong Chi Hoa, 51, entered Vietnam illegally Wednesday evening, riding into Tay Ninh from Cambodia on a motorbike.

He then boarded a taxi headed for Ho Chi Minh City, but the cab was pulled over by police officers at a checkpoint at the Moc Bai junction in Ben Cau District.

Officers found and seized 120,000 ecstasy tablets, which had been divided into 20 plastic bags within Hoa’s luggage.

They also found US$800 and VND11 million, as well as other foreign currencies.

The case is being investigated further.
