Opposition Party Seeks US Help to Secure Return of Leader

The opposition leader Sam Rainsy is in exile after Cambodian courts sentenced him to 12 years in prison, convicting him for destruction of border markers with Vietnam and for publishing false border documents.

“We do hope that the US government will obtain an appropriate measure to ensure that Mr. Sam Rainsy could return.”
The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) is seeking assistance from a visiting US Congresswoman, Niki Tsongas (D-MA) to help facilitate a political solution to secure the return of its leader who is living in exile in France.

Cambodia is scheduled to hold local commune council elections nationwide in June this year. The opposition party sees their leader’s presence in Cambodia as a moral boost to challenge the ruling party of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the Cambodian People’s Party.

“We also made a request to the congresswoman that when she meets with government officials, she should raise this issue with them,” Son Chhay, SRP parliamentarian, told reporters Tuesday after the meeting. “We do hope that the US government will obtain an appropriate measure to ensure that Mr. Sam Rainsy could return.”

The opposition leader Sam Rainsy is in exile after Cambodian courts sentenced him to 12 years in prison, convicting him for destruction of border markers with Vietnam and for publishing false border documents. He asserts the case was politically motivated.

Niki Tsongas, a Democrat from Massachusetts, home to the second-largest Cambodian community in the US, said her visit is to learn more about the many issues and trends happening in Cambodia.

“Mostly we heard the concerns that the opposition has,” Niki Tsongas told reporters.

The writing is all over the wall:
Mrs. Hillary Clinton came, saw, and smile braodly and left - no action!
Next thing you know Mr. Obama will drop by and shake Xen's hand, smile and leave the same way Hillary Clinton did.
Doesn't that tell Khmer something?
Let's be wise stop beating on the dead horse, start thinking differently among ourselves, DO WHAT WE CAN WITH WHAT WE HAVE - OUR PEOPLE and OURSELVES.

8:54 PM,

Who are you? CPP voter? Vietnamese/Yuon who follows evil and dead Ho Chi Minh's dream?

Rainsy is a fucking idiot, who is seeking refuge in the U.S, then turns around and supports China's claim of 90% of the Southsea, taking a stand against the interest of U.S and its allies (Japan, S.Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Australia, India, and Nato members) for free access of water way in the area for commercial and security purposes. Now he wants U.S to guarantee his safe return to Cambodia to launch even more supports for China to serve his own political agenda??? Hey Rainsy! why don't you go seek refuge in China and beg them to safeguard your return instead? Maybe, they can use a dog like you

Our families will vote for your Party when you help us.

Wise up chap!
Why are you having a fit when someone expresses his/her opinion as all concerned Khmer citizen should.

You and your mob's old worn out label of people as CPP or Youn and such is out of fashion, you need to get back to the drawingboard to find some new meaningful vocabulary to express to improve your mob's image and make it shine in the eyes of the people.

I am a Khmer native, I do not vote for CPP nor whatever your party (mob) is; besides I believe all voters should be free to vote their consience and bear the full consequence of their reasoning or the lack thereof, they don't need lecture or threat from you.

If you're absolutely dead serious about your self-rightious (again whatever that mob you subscribe to)and flawless political view, prove it to the Cambodian people in Cambodia so that they are convinced and vote for your mob, otherwise you'll have to camp here on this forum like a stray dog,to bark and harass unsuspected folks who happen to pass by.

Some sorry ass, half-bake political amateur you are my son...

The US understands that Khmer patriots like Sam Rainsy do their best to defend Cambodia's interest against expansionist Vietnam. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Only China can help prevent Vietnam from swallowing Cambodia. Regardless of China’s foreign policy and Cambodian politicians’ stance, the US continues to help promote democracy and defend human rights in Cambodia as a matter of principle. This implies pushing for acceptable elections with the presence of the two main party leaders competing on equal footing. Hun Sen is only afraid of Sam Rainsy whom he has been trying for a long time to kill physically (grenade attack) or politically (Kangaroo court). Would the US accept that Hun Sen “wins” the next elections without the only challenger he is afraid of? Such elections would be meaningless. This also is a matter of principle regardless of politicians’ names.

12:46 AM, HEy FUcker. YOU ARE A FUCKING IDIOT, my friend, unlike you, Sam Rainsy is fighting for his country and for his people.

You call Sam Rainsy a dog, what do you call yourself, Mr FUCKER. Sam Rainsy has done nothing about sacrifice his time and putting his life on the line again and again. What about you, MR FUCKER.

Try not to open your DUMB mouth again, MR FUCKER, but if you are brave enough as you claim that you are, why dont you create your own Party (MOB, as 3:02 AM puts it) and see how long you last, FUCKER.

Now why do you support AH Kwak again?

Mr. Rainsy may have worked hard, but he's definitely not working smart. Unless he acts like a smart one, he and his party won't get anywhere.

A few moons ago, he wrote a letter asserting his support to China's stance in South China sea. That position did not bode well with USA, and now he's asking for USA support. Good luck Mr. Rainsy.

Mr. Rainsy's letter did not impress China either, especially when his senior party member, Mr. Son Chhay had done an excellent job to insult China on Tibet affairs.

Ultimately, neither USA nor China will lift any finger for SRP because SRP has not shown that it's worth their support.

7:02 AM, Dont you know, if you work smart in the Kingdom of Wonder, you dissapear? SRP is the only choice we have to fight against the dictator of 32 years, whether Sam Rainsy ask the US or CHina, or Sri Lanka, he is our only hope. If he doesnt do will you?

You need to understand politics a bit better. Also be a better person yourself, and start educating yourself, don't let Hun Sen feed you.

Dont be a CPP dog.

Agreed with 12:46am! Sam Rainsy's foreign policy is terrible. He does not get it. US only protects their interest. He is now going against their interest and now shamelessly begging for pressure from US to help him coming to Cambodia? How odds? Fat chance dude!

Suggestion for you! Mu Sochua as party leader may be a better chance with the US for the next general election, and that is when while Clinton and Barrack are still in the office. And definitely, not Sam Rainsy's wife or Son Chhay or the other SRP cronies..... I know you wont agree to it.

You have not done a thing for Cambodia but only incitement and appealing to donors to cut and starve ordinary Cambodians of the essential aides. The international community have not listened to you, have they? All your life, you are only trying to chase one thing is to win power/government for your family legacy and dictatorship-to-be. If you a true compatriots, you would sacrifice you "proudness" for the nation and Cambodia.

You too are stupid like your yuon
slave buddy 12:56 am.
Dr.Sam Rainsy almost got killed twice.
Whitout international supports, Hun Sen
and Yuon slaves will try to kill him again.

Here is an idea, lets have Sam Rainsy back in Cambodia. Why are CPP supporters so worried about having Sam Rainsy back in the country?

7:14 AM, 7:02 AM, If Cambodia is a free and fair democratic country as Hun Sen seems to see.

Why not let the opposition leader do his job as consitututed? Why use the Jungle law to send the opposition leader to 12 years in prison?

Surely, 7:14 AM and 7:02 AM are not CPP dogs, and can justify your reasons why you support Hun Sen jungle law.

Peace

8:12 am, 8:30am, it's logical thinking re your clever leader. That is y fouled mouth from you two. No body is stopping Sam Rainsy from coming to Cambodia. Please do not compare Sam Rainsy to Aun Sung Suki. She has more balls than Sam Rainsy. I could call him a Chinese _ _ g too. But I am not your type - very good at swearing/labeling your own compatriots if they disagree with you. And you are proclaiming you are following Sam Rainsy? He is surrounded by people like you. That's y he does not understand Khmer politics. I should say Asian democracy.

12:57 PM.

You werent educated when you are young, now you are barking the same words "No body is stopping Sam Rainsy from coming to Cambodia".

You mean Sam Rainsy can just return to Khmer to be sentenced to 12 years in prison and still be an Opposition leader? Where did you get your PhDs from CPP Dog?

I wrote the comment at 12:46 am and still stick by it. It is very puzzling as to why Rainsy had to throw all his support to China on the Southsea claim, how does that benefit him or Cambodia other than a side shot at the Yuon that doesn't even hurt them??? And if he thinks that he can just try to kiss China's ass and they will bring him to power as their puppet dog (like it will even happens) then he can no longer be viewed as a democratic leader under the eyes of the rest of the world (for example, he will have to take stands against Tibet's movement, and go against many other ASEAN members and U.S on issues concerning China's expansion. This idiot Rainsy is extremely weaker than even Hun Sen, who stands neutral and benefit from all the back and forth between China & Vietnam. Rainsy has sucked up the wrong cock again and again, by thinking that U.S, ASEAN, India, Japan, S.Korea, Australia, Russia and many members of NATO will support a Cambodian leader who sides with China. Khmer people need much wiser leaders to turn things around.

3:28 PM, I think you suck to much cocks. Dictator Hun Sen is neutral? Think again, Hun Sen is playing with fire atm, On one hand, he keeps repeating that noone can get rid of him and that he doesnt need UN, then sends of his minions to do the bidding for more money.

He is also playing with fire against many NGOs organizations in Cambodia, just recently he threatens to close down Human Right office in PP. Hes also playing fire by trying to track all movements of NGOs and as well as defrocks monks and playing with religions.

"idiot Rainsy is extremely weaker than even Hun Sen" If this is true, name one person who is above or stronger then Hun Sen? The constitution? The King? Dont make me laugh DUMB ASS. Be a good CPP dog and do more research. Take some lessons on democracy or dictator.

Hun Sen doesn't care about Norodom Ranariddh or Kem Sokha or Nhiek Bun Chhay because he is afraid of none of them. He is only afraid of Sam Rainsy. That's why he does his best to eliminate only Sam Rainsy with the blessing of Vietnam. Vietnam hates Sam Rainsy because of the border issue that no other Cambodian politicians dare to raise like Sam Rainsy.

The real expansion that everyone is worrying about, including the US, its allies, and some members of Rainsy's own party, is that of China, and not just else where in Asia, but right in Cambodia as well. China doesn't care that Hun Sen is violating basic human rights in Cambodia before/now/or in the future, they just want to extract the most out of their investment in Cambodia. How does China gonna help Khmer folks in getting more democracy when they don't even allow that in their own country? Many of the land-grabbing and under-compensated projects are money from China going to Chinese companies with Chinese workers. JUST BECAUSE YOU WANT TO GET AWAY FROM THE CROCODILE, DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE TO RUN TO THE T-REX. The reason why U.S is not in close tight with Hun Sen because of his human right violation against his own people. Look at Burma, who has learned a big lesson in siding with China and got robbed of much of their resouces to China in the past, is eventually wised up enough to distance themself from China and opening up to US with a more democratic governing style. Learn from that.

To 10:52am,
Try to learn something now.
We do not care about China nor the US.
The problem is that the Viets have been
trying to annex Your country to Vietnam.
Do not You understand that ?
Do not expect the US to send the American
troops to attack Vietnam from the North, or any part of Vietnam.
The Chinese already did in
1979.If circumstances are right, they will
help us again to fight off the Viet invaders.
We must fight to save Our race and Our
Mother Land.
