Sok Khemara, VOA Khmer | Washington
“They informed me about my rights to answer their questions or remain silent. I told them that there is nothing much I can answer.”
The UN-backed war crime tribunal has notified Im Chaem, a former mid-level Khmer Rouge cadre, of her alleged crimes and asked the suspect to prepare for future indictment.
Im Chaem, former head of Khmer Rouge security center in Battambang’s Preah Netpreah district, where an estimated 40,000 people died under the regime, received a surprise visit by a Khmer Rouge tribunal investigation team earlier this week.
“They informed me about my rights to answer their questions or remain silent,” Im Chaem told VOA Khmer by phone on Thursday. “I told them that there is nothing much I can answer.”
An investigation team led by investigating Judge Laurent Kasper-Ansermet read the notification order to Im Chaem at her home in Anlong Veng district, Uddor Meanchey province on February 28.
Im Chaem, 66, is a suspect in the controversial case 004, and prosecutors say she was involved in a “common criminal plan, or joint criminal enterprise,” along with a second suspect, Ta Tith, to “execute all perceived enemies of the [Khmer Rouge] regime.”
“The charges are contradicting to the truth,” said Im Chaem. “They have accused me without any reasons. I cannot accept it.”
The two-page order dated 24 February, which was read to VOA Khmer later, also advises Im Chaem to go to Phnom Penh to seek a legal defense team.
The investigation team also sought to meet Meas Muth, another suspect in case 003. But he was not at home at the time.
“[They] came for what if there was no interest to the nation or to me,” Meas Muth asked.
Lars Olsen, a spokesman for the UN side of the court, declined to comment, saying that he had no new information on cases 003 and 004.
However, sources close to the court told VOA Khmer that Kasper-Ansermet had plans to investigate at the crime sites and meet all the five suspects.

you know, during the time of the KR, this lady who held a top position like she did, do have power to order people to be killed under that stupid, ignorant, primitive regime. that's the undeniably fact. there was just too many people being killed because people then lived in fear 24/7. this ugly lady should be brought to justice for her involvement and support of the killing fields of that regime, really! we all know people were killed under the KR regime, period. if buts or ifs about that, you know! the ones in charge then were all responsible, period. under the KR rule, no one can escape the brutality, injustice act of that regime. there were abuses in some way whether killing, starvation, lack of medicine, sickness, etc, all abuse because the KR regime neglected and abused all people under their rule, period! this she-monster ex KR lady and KR people can deny all they want now, but they cannot escape the reality of the brutal KR regime by nature. it was really brutal under the KR rule, period. the people like this ugly lady who were put in charge did have some kind of responsibility tied to that regime's killing fields, no doubt about it, really! all the KR killers must be held accountable and responsible, period! i say demand she go to court to anwser questions and tell khmer people and the world why she was so ignorant and stupid then? in fact, according to my parents, the killing was worsen toward the time when the KR regime was ousted because persued people to tried to escape for their safety when the vietnamese forces invaded cambodia to oust the brutal regime. they sill killed people. they were the killers for real! no doubt!
the KR regime were the killers themselves, they like killing people under the KR rule, period! i don't care what they say now, they were all killers under that lunatic, psychotic KR regime! the one in charge were the most responsible and abusive! this KR lady was one of those killers, no doubt, you know!
i have no doubt, if they KR were still in power today, the killing would keep on going still with people like this stupid, ignorant woman as example of the KR! take her to court to face justice!
the KR regime was the killer! under the KR rule, people that hated each other, people that were prisoners, law breakers, etc from past regime were all killers. the KR were made up of mostly people of outcast like criminals, the ignorant, the primitive, etc... it was the ultimate class war between the slaves the masters, the criminals against the former gov't officials, etc.... the KR encouraged their people to kill based on hate, revenge, class status, etc, etc... the KR has no justice system at all, the law were based on the individuals like this lady, for example. if she did not like you or hate your family or hate what you did in previous gov't, she can order you to be killed, even your entire family, the KR don't care about life, it was about killing and more killing, their way of getting rid of their enemies, whatever that enemies they think was, it doesn't matter. killing was their form of justice under the lunatic KR regime!
under the KR rule, you and i wouldn't be alive to talk about this today. that was all about killing and getting rid of everything and anyone they perceive to be their enemies, it could be anything, you'd be killed for it, really! under the KR, it was pure ignorance, yes, ignorance rules under the KR regime. the regime just like to kill people, period! killing was their policy, that's it! that's why it was called the killing fields!
you can get killed for thinking differently, for anything, period! the KR got rid of any kind of justice system, they thrived under lawlessness, under primitive law, the jungle law, period. they keep you if you are act ignorant, and stupid and you can say it was all about control, but the killing tells a different story, control doesn't have to be by killing, but that's what the KR people did, killing. if you talk about the KR, you cannot escape by not using the word killing or death! it was imminent under the KR rule!
to better understand the KR way, in any society today, if we were to remove the justice system like the rule of law, the law, ethical code of conduct, professionalism, god, etc, etc, you get the KR style of injustice like killing fields. try it and you will understand the KR rule why how they came about doing it by removing the justice system what we call justice and law and order, etc... that's what they were. that's how they got to where they were, that's what they did what they did. yes, you'd be surprised how our world without the rule fo law, without justice will do, it's the cruel human world. we all need justice and the rule of law, period or we all will be like the KR society, living in fear of death 24/7. the KR lesson should be about the strengthening of the rule of law in cambodia and the world as well, because without the justice system, we all turn to the KR way. believe it or not, law and justice protects us all. it's a case of how important the rule of law is because without it, we have the pandemonium of injustice like under the KR rule.
