Hun Xen forgot he was speaking as the ASEAN chair? Now the world can see the real Hun Xen-the-thug

Hun Xen (L) can't hide his true color to the world when he used the ASEAN stage to lambast his local critics, Dr. Lao Mong Hay (C) and opposition leader Sam Rainsy (R)

Cambodia’s Hun Sen Proves A Feisty Asean Chair

April 4, 2012

The Wall Street Journal (blog)
Mr. Hun Sen’s outburst was all the more surprising given that this week’s summit represents a powerful opportunity for Cambodia to burnish its reputation on the international stage. ... many analysts had expected Mr. Hun Sen to focus attention on statesman-like issues such as regional stability and economic development rather than highlighting domestic political disputes.
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen seemed to forget in a Wednesday press conference that he was speaking as the chair of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations bloc, and used the occasion to deliver a feisty harangue against his domestic political enemies.

Deriding his critics as “crazy analysts” and “stupid philosophers,” Mr. Hun Sen jarred awake an international press corps of about 200 reporters that had steeled themselves for sunny talk of regional harmony and bland pronouncements on such Asean perennials as customs cooperation.

While he didn’t mention any of his foes by name, he taunted one by mentioning several times an analyst with a “bald head.” People present suggested it might refer to Lao Mong Hay, a human rights activist and vocal critic of Hun Sen’s government who earlier in the week made comments to local news outlets about the powerful influence of China in the tiny Southeast Asian nation – a sensitive topic there.

Mr. Lao Mong Hay implied in his comments that the visit of Chinese President Hu Jintao to Phnom Penh two days before the Asean summit was designed to pressure Cambodia to soft-pedal disputes over competing territorial claims in the South China Sea during talks this week. The subject of the South China Sea came up repeatedly during the Asean summit, with some Southeast Asian nations pressing for a common stance on conflicts in the resource-rich waters, while China has worked to keep the topic off of Asean’s agenda as much as possible.

Mr. Hun Sen also lambasted members of the opposition in the National Assembly who had complained, wrongly he said, of undue Chinese influence. “They are not able lead the country if they are involved in politics in such a silly way. . . Cambodia is not going to be bought by anyone,” he said.

Mr. Hun Sen’s outburst was all the more surprising given that this week’s summit represents a powerful opportunity for Cambodia to burnish its reputation on the international stage. Although it’s one of the smallest countries in Southeast Asia, with about 15 million people, it has seen its tourist industry and broader economy take off in recent years after the country stabilized following years of political chaos during and after the Khmer Rouge era. Each year a different Southeast Asian country takes over as Asean chair and hosts its key summits; despite his reputation as something of a maverick, many analysts had expected Mr. Hun Sen to focus attention on statesman-like issues such as regional stability and economic development rather than highlighting domestic political disputes.

Mr. Hun Sen’s the tirade went on for close to 30 minutes. Mr. Hun Sen handled a question on the Myanmar elections before another question on China set him going again against his critics. One hour and fifteen minutes after the press conference had begun, Southeast Asia’s longest-serving leader declared it was time for lunch.

stop bashing hun sen for a change, ok! we know this is more politics than anything. i'm not surprised a bit to see sam rainsy and others bashing hun sen. god forbid these individual rules cambodia, it would be a disaster and chaos like in the 1970s. these individuals like samr rainsy still use class status and look down on hun sen for his mediocre beginning. i think that in itself is injustice for people to still use class status or former background, etc to attack other people. and these individuals the advocate of equality? they are hypocrites, if you ask me. don't forget cambodia and the world for that matter has changed. no outdated system is allowed in cambodia again, ok! people hated those who used class status to attack other. class status is obsolete and primitive tradition and should be banned in cambodia permanently, you know! in actuality, people in cambodia don't care anymore about what your parents or grandparents did in the past, now it is based on education, exam, qualitifications, meeting requirements, etc... and only a little bit of connection is ok, but don't abuse the system, ok! sam rainsy and people like him are a dying breed because no one will tolerate that outdated system anymore, you know! cambodia, in reality is now open to anyone who is capable, who is qualified in their own rights, nobody cares about your connection to the past any more, ok. your father, grandparents, etc are all dead now, so cambodia and life go on with or without you or them, ok! get used to it, it's life! nowadays, people in cambodia care more about business, survival, peace, stability, prosperity, development, the rule of law, khmer language, khmer identity, education and so forth. forget your past connection, ok, sam rainsy, you are now a refugee living in france, etc with no KR experience, etc, you if you keep up like this, people will vote you out of office again and again. yes, believe in the vote because that's how people kick you out of office with their vote because they don't even have to use violence anymore, instead they use their voting power to elect the right individuals for office, it won't be you if you continue to be stupid nonstop like this, ok! so wake up and smell the coffee already, ok! there are more to cambodia than you and i, really!

Well some smart journalists throw in some cheap bait and Ah Hun Sen bites it in no time.
To have him as a leader is to have Cambodia being looked down by other nations.
What’s a shame?

You didn't seem to really read the article at all. You wrote like a group of Yuon networks whose jobs are to stick and toss some sour and shit all over the place to confuse people. Have you ever sat down and think what your Yuon do to others will fall back upon you and your Yuon?
Ah.Me Yuon kantorb niss.
Yeahh ah Hun Sen said Cambodia cannot be bought by anyone, but ah Kvack sold Khmer land to ah Yuon like the land belongs to him.

The dumbest ah Hun Sen was rehearsed from whatever ah Yuon kantorb told him to say. And it makes Ah kvack Sen look too stupid. He didn't know when he should talk about domestic politics and when he should talk toward foreigner leaders about about outside Cambodia's problems.

Cambodia...what can I really say about Cambodia! It is a place where I was born, but I did not grew up in Cambodia. I have spent most of my time living in United States of America. I do appreciate very much of what this country did for me and my family, but when it comes to think of it, it was a "war" that actually brought me to United States and perhaps, most of Cambodians are in the same situation. I do not wish to live in the same predicament and dwell over my past of what has happened during my time under Khmer Rouge. If I continou to live in the past I shall not be able to do anything with my life. To seek for justice for all Cambodians, we must first understand how it happened in the first place. But to do that will only bring tears to my eyes and painful memories will return just to haunt me again and so, I must look forward to rebuild my country as I see fit. I have visited Cambodia several times and the country is growing at a rapid rate and if most Cambodians continou to live in the past and never to forgive, they will have no one to blame, but themselves. Cambodia is a changing place whether they like it or not and Cambodia will not wait for them. But the one main problem I constantly seeing is there are too many Chinese living inside Cambodia. In addition, there are many Chinese Associations throughout Cambodia and these associations are set up to help the "Oversea Chinese" living inside Cambodia. If I am correct with my prediction as it has happened in the past in United States during the US Railroad Construction in America, the Chinese Associations serve as the catalyst to espinage in America. Therefore, this process is being utilized in Cambodia to serve the same purpose as it did in America. If you go to Cambodia you will see nothing but Chinese and Chinese investments in Cambodia. Most government job bids are given to Chinese companies such sand dridging, cement factories, road reconstructions and other important infrastructures in Cambodia. This is the reason why Chinese government is able to provide funding to Cambodian government while in exchange, the government signed off on these contracts to Chinese firms. To counter balance of Chinese in Cambodia, Vietnam understands this problem quite well, but it seems to me that the Vietnamese government is nothing doing anything about these Chinese investments in Cambodia. The question is why Vietnam afraid to challenge these Chinese investors?

And so, the problems in Cambodia will always remain to be between Vietnam and China while Cambodians are becoming a dying breeds. I dont really who you are and as long as you are living in Cambodia, you ought to help rebuild Cambodia instead of spying or stealing from Cambodia.

Thank You.
