SEADocs: Prey Lang - Fire of Light - Light of Hope by Kim Samath

SEADocs -- The Southeast Asian Student Documentary Award is a competition to encourage the art of documentary filmmaking in the region as a platform to engage with pressing social and environmental issues. The 2011 competition invites students aged 18 -- 28 in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam to make a film under the theme "Tree{s} of Life: Seeds of Change".

Fourth Year Student of the Department of Media and Communication of the Royal University Kim Samath was one of three contestants for Cambodia chosen to participate in the international competition. For her film "Prey Lang - Fire of Light, Light of Hope" she traveled to the Prey Lang Forest to investigate how people are living close with the largest forest in the area that is under constant threat of deforestation.

The Southeast Asian Student Documentary Awards is an initiative by the Goethe Institute.
