Stemming from the accusation by Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI), the KR Tribunal lost several hundreds of thousands of dollars of its funds.

Reach Sambath, the KRT spokesman, said today that the reason the money was lost was because the KRT had to spend for auditing purpose stemming from the ECCC corruption accusation leveled by OSJI.

Reach Sambath declared during a press conference held today, following the presentation of the more than one year long investigation where several hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent and the investigation showed that there was no corruption as accused.

Duch Investigation Could Last to April: Expert

The investigation leading to the trial of Khmer Rouge prison chief Duch could last through April, with trials starting thereafter, a tribunal expert said Tuesday.

That means Duch, whose real name is Kaing Khek Iev, 65, could see a trial in the second half of 2008, "if there are not political or other problems acting as obstacles," said Hisham Mousar, a tribunal monitor for the rights group Adhoc.

Duch oversaw the infamous Tuol Sleng prison in Phnom Penh, where as many as 16,000 Cambodians were tortured, later to be executed in the "killing fields" outside the capital.

His trial would be the first of five jailed Khmer Rouge leaders, who were ousted from power nearly 30 years ago.

Tribunal spokesman Reach Sambath said the investigators were "expediting the investigation" and would wrap up their work by Khmer New Year, in mid-April.

Cambodian police confident in bomb investigation

Police officials investigating the source of three homemade bombs planted before a monument here are confident in the investigation's progress so far, local media said on Tuesday.

Deputy National Police Commissioner Sok Phal told Cambodian-language newspaper the Kampuchea Thmey that he has plenty of witnesses and enough evidence to find the perpetrators.

Lieutenant General Khieu Sopheak, spokesman for the Interior Ministry, said that authorities have a number of leads to investigate and that the investigation is progressing well.

"We have already traced the activities and a light has been given to us," he was quoted by English-language newspaper the Cambodia Daily as saying.

The three bombs were laid late Saturday at the foot of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship monument. One exploded at around 05:15 am on Sunday morning, though no one was injured and the statue not damaged. Bomb disposal experts from the Cambodian Mine Action Centre later disabled the two remaining devices.
